Never fear, the adventure continues... had what looks like a trans failure today. After talking to Martin he thinks I have a collapsed filter blocking fluid.. I have to change filters to be sure. The trans stop working in all gears after making a hard test hit. I thought it was done. But when I went out to test it again at Martins request it had gears again and moved. This has been one hell of a tough transmission taking everything I can throw at it...

those old boxes take a beating......unlike a certain modern DCX trans

Jacked her up and dropped the trans pan. The filter was nasty with black grit. The fluid actually looked clean none of grit suspended. Easy to wipe the pan clean with a rag. The magnet was relatively clean. No metal. Adjusted the bands 2 turns out. Talking with Martin Saine the trans builder the conclusion is this is TC clutch residue from the CRT Valve Body failure. My recommendation is not to buy CRT products. John Cope is a dead beat and his products are problematic.
Road tested red and all seems to work as it should. This trans has taken a real beating and always comes back.. now to continue with HP Tuning.

Oh boy! State inspection time again.. putting a nice calm tune in it so its drives nice and smooth for the mechanic to drive it into the inspection bay. Should be a cake walk.. so why do I sweat it every year...

I personally don't like the inspections. But without them I'm afraid people would have some real dangerous junk on the road.

IMO.... these vehicle inspections are just another way to collect tax dollars on newer cars...... and most of these inspections are tallied around emissions that do not pertain to any vehicle older than 1970....... what part of their inspections are actually for safety? when we had our inspection here in Florida all they cared about was the emissions.

They don't do emission testing in this area, but check tires, suspension, lights, brakes, glass and exhaust.

Got to the inspection shop at 0700. First one in... checked lights, tires and shook the front suspension looking for anything loose. All is well and was out of there in 15 minutes with a new sticker.

They gotta look at a vehicle like Red and know its well taken care of. But they need to go thru the motions to keep there job. :thumb:

I always go to the same place and I know the owner. We stood at the rear of red and told stories as it was being inspected watching. They know the truck.. I like to do business with folks I know.

Weight reduction is free horsepower and should be constantly considered when working on our trucks. Areas to be aware of on my list are tailgate. Can't figure out why that sucker is so heavy. Seats, there is a surprising amount of weight difference among the choices. In my experience the SLT Laramie being the heavier, SX being the lightest. Carpet and sound deadening materials can be replaced with more modern lighter materials. And of course driveshaft, suspension and wheels where choices are more difficult to make. But weight advantages can be significant... Being a street truck often requires compromises that race trucks aren't concerned about, such as comfort, dependability, fuel mileage and durability. Making IMO street trucks more challenging to build but still exciting to drive. I totally enjoy working on the truck making decisions on it's individual parts attempting to determine what best supports my goals. It's a great sport, be safe...

Needed to free up one of the engine stands for the new engine being built. Bought a cheap wooden dolly from Lowe's and made a wooden cradle for a hemi block to sit in. Screwed them together. Lifted old reds 345 engine from the stand and lowered it onto the cradle. Bagged it back up and now it is easy to push the engine around as needed. It's been hot and humid here, so working the morning is a must.

we have been getting hammered with the heat and humidity with feel like temperatures above 100 *
