Started cleaning and detailing but, changed my mind. At this point, need to get it up and running first. Can always clean and detail everything after it's up and running. Going to start out with the 3.55 gears and oem posi. Will change them out later on after it's up and running.

Didn't realize but, some how got the engine/trans spacer plate swapped incorrectly from the 03 to the 05 and vice versa. The plate that's on the 05 (392/ATS trans) is the small hole for the starter and doesn't work on the 05 starter.:facepalm::facepalm: The spacer plate properly aligns the starter to the flex plate.

Anyone have an 05 started (large hole) spacer plate?

I have the spacer plate off my 03, I don’t need it anymore from the 46re. If you need it you can have it, can you grind the hole bigger? I didn’t think the starter hole would be different

Keith mine is the same way.... lol

Yeah that’s what I thought. The starter goes on with two bolts that hold it pretty tight and straight, I don’t think that plate removes any wiggle room to keep it aligned

I know I've been around a long time but...... I would not mate the transmission and the engine without that plate. it's not there just for the starter... It's also for protection to the back of the Block in case your transmission grenades. and not only that there's a clearance between the shaft in your transmission to the crankshaft that bounces in and out that could cause the crank the bang into the input shaft in the transmission...... just my two cents.

Mark, I'm afraid you are over thinking this a little. It is mostly a dust cover. There are applications it can also be a spacer. When mounting a 46re trans some folks use one 3/16" thick to space the starter ring and get the tq properly engaged. Many of us use a special flexplate to get everything lined up made just for 46re mounted on a hemi. Mine is sorta inplace but cut up a little. Mostly to keep stones away from the tq.

Yeah it’s just a thin plate that goes around the outside edge. I don’t see that stopping and damage from a blown up trans. Pain in the *** too trying to hold it in place booting up the block to the trans. I’m curious to see how much it actually functions as a necessary spacer between them

Using the PATC flexplate for hemi/46re none at all. There are also spacer plates available (3/16") but I don't know of anyone using it.
