I would suggest you go a different rout Nathan. There seems to be more problems here than you can shake a stick at.

Denny and I agree, there seems to be a T/C problem. Or there seems to be a communication problem between the computer and the T/C.

Sounds familiar doesn't it Bill and Josh.

Herki Jerki definition: Slipping all over the place and not going anywhere while getting jerked around.

Here's my R&D work list: Or, Herki Jerki work list. Did it work.

1. Unplug the Torque Management wire.
2. Install KRC set-up and hope Marty can save me again...
Image

3. Install stock valve body. I know your feeling this Josh.

4. Re-install the stock T/C. I'm feeling this one.

I did disconnect the Torque Management wire with the stock tune. The trans does have a firmer shift but, when you press down on the throttle at 70mph the trans still slips bad until I make it downshift or I let off the throttle. This will not do.

I will call Denny tomorrow to make arrangements to return the T/C and the stage III trans for a full refund and that also includes shipping. I am very sad to have to make this decision. If the trans doesn't work correctly now, it won't work with a custom tune.

As you all know, this will affect the install of the Turbo 390 stroker engine. And nobody is more sadden by that fact than I.

Stu, would it be a thought to go to the old tried and true 727? ( with or without overdrive)

That 727 wouldn't be a bad choice Jay. It would probably be the best choice. The 727 is heavy duty.

After thinking about the trans problem for most night and in the morning. It doesn't feel right to just give up without trying to fix the problem first. But only if Denny agreed to take back the T/C and the trans if we couldn't fix the problem. Also included was no out of my pocket expenses. Denny agreed. Denny is sending me some guages so we can check the trans pressures first. And then we will go from there.

The bad news is, I have to drive the truck as little as possible.

And no racing....

Since this is the first time for me on the subject of trouble shooting this type of trans. I would like to hear some feedback from some of you that have jumped into and rebuilt, trouble shooted or have possibly have had some experience with this type of transmission. (Josh and Bill)
Image
Please be serious and straight to the point on your info. Please, no jokes like this one.

What do you get when you install a high tech computer on a GEO trans? A Dodge Ram 545RFE transmission....

Hummmm....... Nobody is laughing at that one.

This could be really serious.

Ok, this is the problem. When going onto the freeway at a roll and hit the throttle to the floor. The trans feels like it is slipping and jerking. Then the trans finally downshifts (very solid downshift) and takes off and will shift to each gear very solid all the way up the gears. It does this with the OD on or off. Note: The trans doesn't seem to slip and jerk as much with the OD off. The other time the trans does this is at 50 or 70 mph with or without the OD on. If I don't put the throttle to WOT. I can actually make the trans slip for a long time. And now it slips bad. The only way to stop the slipping is to go to WOT and make it downshift or let off the throttle. I'm not sure if its the OD or the T/C clutch is that is sticking or slipping.
Image

Other notes: The T/C feels a little spongy and slow. At part throttle, the trans doesn't shift as hard as it does at WOT. I believe that is because of the spongy T/C. When I go to WOT, I don't get that solid hit from the T/C. I've never had a 3000rpm stall converter before. So, I'm not sure if that's good or not.
Image
(I will test the T/C to see where it stalls at). Denny also feels that the T/C stall is a bit off or not set right.

The great things about the stage III trans. At a dead stop to WOT. The trans shifts solid all the way through the gears. Set to the same rpm at each shift all the way up to 4th. Shifting at 5800 and dropping down to 4200 rpm at each gear. The shift schedule is perfect for our trucks. The HP and the TQ doesn't fall off like it does in a stock trans at the upper gears.(3rd & 4th) I REALLY like this. This will work great for the turbo. I finally understand what you were talking about on this trans Bill.

I do have the trans manual. Time to start reading it to see if we can figure this out.

No.... I'm building a GEO trans.
Stu, when your finished with my GEO transmission please mount it to that shiny silver motor and i'll bring the GEO up there and we can make a killer mid engine GEO

Update:

Received and installed the trans pressure gauge's from Denny. Started the truck, checked for leaks in the gauge set-up. Also was letting the truck and trans warm up. After the truck and trans was warmed up, I started checking the trans pressures at park, reverse, drive and so on. I've never have tried to stall the converter to see where the stall rpm would be at for my stock 5.7 hemi engine. Well, except for the KRC 210 cam. So, I pressed on the brake and raised the throttle to 3000rpm easily. I shouldn't be able to do this.
Image
I did it again. but, this time I gave it all of the throttle. Stalled it to 3500rpm and then heard a screeching metal to metal noise from the converter. I broke the converter. WTF.........
Image

Called Denny and told him what happened. He said yep, I broke the T/C. We both where correct in thinking that the T/C was the problem. Denny will make all of the arrangements for shipping back the T/C and the trans. Denny will take apart the trans to make sure that the trans is not damaged. The T/C will go back to Edge for repair. I'm looking forward to talking to them about this T/C.
Image
I also want to change the T/C stall to 2800rpm. I need to talk to Denny about that.
