Hey Josh, are you running a stock torque converter. That could explain the hard down shifts. Or, do you have the Torque Management option tuned off? With my tune from Marty. My Torque management is turned off. Some times, it will get a harder than normal down shift when slowing down. I bet that is a much harder down shift in a stage III.

"The Sharadon stage III trans was set-up to run a 2800 to 3500 rpm stall TC. Denny said the trans works best with 3000 rpm stall TC on a 2WD." Note: The Sharadon stage III trans is set-up more for the track than the street.

The shudder, hesitate, and bump bump bump?
I would call and talk to Denny about those problems. He won't be in town until 9/14. I have to call him back on that date to find out what my options are for a 03 trans build.

Bill, are you having this same hard down shift at 30 mph? I'm guessing your Torque Management is turned off also?

I have the TransGo 545RFE-HD2 Reprogramming kit. I'll install it. And tell all about the pros and cons of this kit.


Did you know: Sharadon installs these same kits in their stage III valve bodys as per Denny. Of course, he does other mods to the valve body also. Hummmm..... Some thing to think about.

I love my 30 roll down shift... It just seems my valve body doesnt like to do a downshift above that anymore
My down shifts are not that rough.
Wondering if the added pounds of a quad cab soften that "Race Transmission"

Just comparing the Paramount tranny on that 300 SRT to what I have, and well.....It's a big ass truck!

Thanks Josh and Bill for the trans info. That's why I like going to these GTGs. You can sit down and talk about various mods that we have done to our trucks and pass the info on.

I will be ordering a Line Pressure Booster and install the HD Reprogramming kit for now. I hope that enough to stop the trans from slipping so I can go racing with all of you on Oct 10th.

Will I have to flash the trans computer with the following trans mods. Edge converter, line pressure booster, HD Reprogramming kit and Red Eagle clutches installed???????? No.

I found out from Denny today that is incorrect. Any time you replace the clutches, you must flash the trans computer. The computer will re-learn the trans setting for the new clutches. If you install a new trans, you must get the trans computer flashed. And running a line pressure booster with the torque management off, will not cause any problems.

I'm going to try to do my trans mod in stages.

Stage 1: Line Pressure Booster and HD Reprogram kit.
Stage 2: Red Eagle Clutches, Sharadon Stage III Valve Body and a Edge Converter.
Stage 3: Stage 1 & 2 didn't work and I have to get a Sharadon Stage III Trans.

Well, at least I'll have stage three valve body and the torque converter already.

Sounds like a good plan Stu.
Didn't get a chance for a good complete Tranny scan today.
Did manage to isolate the 700 code to a 740.

Hey Bill and Josh, I just got done talking to Denny. P0740: Torque Converter Clutch, No RPM Drop at Lockup. Denny said to give him a call if you are having any problems or codes popping up from the trans. As far as a Stage 3 for me. I can install one. But, I can't adjust the shift points on the trans. It's fine where it shifts now. So it's all good. He also said, if you have the Torque Management turned off by a custom tune. It's not all the way off....(as per HemiFever) The best way is to cut the wire or install a switch. This is only on the 03 and 04s. Oh, one other thing. Denny has confirmed my engine HP will be down due to the small cam.
But, it will have good torque and be very tunable. Oh well, it is an 03. At least I don't have to worry about tearing up a Stage 3 trans.
One more note: He recommends to have the trans flashed if you install just a stage 3 valve body. They have had some situations happening that way lately.

Change to original plan.
Stage 2: Edge Converter and Sharadon Stage III trans. Better safe than sorry. At this point, I can't take a chance and waste any money to do that kind of testing or learning the hard way.

Update: Placed Sharadon trans on order. Denny is holding the core charge for 60 days so I can get this trans now. I will be shipping him the HD Reprograming kit. Thanks Denny.


PS My trans has started to slip more. I think it had something to do with trying to keep up with Josh as we were going to the Horse Power 4 HorseSisters Show.
And the bad part about it. April said, I need to take it easy on the trans.

No..... The trans has been slipping since the May 2 Sunday Funday. Putting on a bigger turbo didn't help any thing either. I keep changing the filter and fluid and it helps a little. I turned the boost and fuel down and it still slips. I have to cruize around and go no higher than 3000 rpm. So far no codes. It might last a lttle longer. I hope.

Not yet. I'm planning on ordering it today. I hope it will help the trans in the truck to last a little longer.
Anyone have a stock valve body I could try out for a while?? Sharadon needs to see if its the vb or the TQ Converter?

shudders on downshift above 35mph...
btw... picking up a vb today, found one local through a friend that is letting me try it
