Which side is OUT on these exhaust gaskets?

I ordered and installed these gaskets.

And they are bare metal on one side, and gasket material on the other side.

I looked all over trying to figure it out. So I installed them with the metal in, and the gasket material out. Hope that was correct.

They are left and right gaskets. The passengers side has the gas port in front of the front exhaust port. The gasket will only fit one way. This will tell which side of the gasket lays against the head.
