It's Ram Air so you have to be moving to get the full benifit's. (the benifit's start as soon as you start moving) I'll also add it's the only performance mod I've done that showed mpg improvement, I got .5mpg gain. It 3/10ths claim have been proven time and time again on stock truck's in the 1/4mi. (so it's not so minimal as most think) Sorry but I don't agree with most that a intake doesn't do much on our truck's. That claim is B.S. and the Vararam proves that. It was my first mod and been on my truck 5/6 yrs.. I know a lot complain about it's quality, but mine is stock and it's held up fine and still look's good. The only draw back I've found is if you have to work on the top of the motor it has to come off. (it only take's 10min. to remove.)It's well worth it's money over a tube and filter for $200+. Here's a pic of mine and a link to big saving's on it.

$279 Thats a good price, Where do you order replacment filters? Do they make K&N type filters for it?

Whats wrong with quality and fitment?

Does it come with everything I need to make it work?

That i$ a good price:thumb:. I would scan through the HTC member photos that are using the Vararam and PM them an inquiry about their use and installation procedures .

Vararam uses media filters made by Green Filters and they can be cleaned and recharged, just like K&N filters.

I just did Some reading and most people say they are cheaply made and fit bad and allow dirt in the motor, They also have fitment issues with them rubbing on hood, a/c lines and so on.
I thought I found the intake I wanted but now I am not sure, Leaning toward S&B now.

If I did get the Hemi glass one not sure if I can keep my tow hooks, i have been googling but have not found an answer.

A lot of them claim's are from poor installation. (not everyone is mechanically inclined) Some adjustment's are necessary and are easily done. The a/c line one is valid, I just put a piece of heater hose on the a/c line where it passes the bracket. Install is not hard at all, Routing the line's (tube's) are the biggest thing. You want to go short and straight as possible. Passenger side requires some snaking. (don't go around frame if you want the best performance.) If you 4 wheel in water and mud this intake is not for you. The tow hook's will have to go to mount the scoop. Once you adjust it to fit you'll be happy and done. If you want the most out of a intake (HP) get this one. If you just want to get rid of the hemi hat and a easier install get something else. There are a couple other good choice's. Some are no longer available or have draw back's. Just depend's on what you want. Good Luck!!!

I really don't want to get rid of the Tow hooks, I am leaning toward the S&B now.

What about a functional SRT10 hood...several have done this with various types of unobstructed direct air filter intakes:thumb:.
As mentioned above and everywhere else - I don't think the 'perfect' one exists...just get what YOU like :D.

I do plan on getting a SRT hood at some point, Id like to then add a filter setup that would work with that hood then. I have seen pictures of them but have not found who carriers them.

Go to page 7 (last page) under member's trucks - all garages...see Phill's hood and intake...it's about as direct as you can get .

I saw one like that but it fit the SRT opening perfectly, Fit right in the hoods opening.

You are correct...some are homemade fabrications and they were for sale by a vendor somewhere in the past when the Gen.III Ram trucks were getting all of the attention :D.

If you decided to go with the functional SRT10 Hood - Volant makes a bolt-on adapter for their CAI that feeds directly into the scoop and it also has a lower snorkel style tube that runs close to the fender well feeding air into the bottom of the CAI. I think www.Moes-Performance carries the Volant CAI's and he can probably set you up with the hood too :thumb:.

Establishing a goal is the hard part. Once done then stick to the goal without wavering off course. Beats buying things you don't need.

Greg you're :exactly: right on that one :thumb:. Kinda' reminds me of our current Federal gubmint where they go orgasmic spending other people's money :banghead:.

My biggest misadventure was with the Megasquirt, If I had done the stand alone trans first I would probably be using it today. But I learned a lesson. Funny thing I knew I was doing it backwards but against my better judgment and went ahead with the install anyway. Plan carefully what you want the truck to do for you.

I just don't get it. It's light weight, made to flex with the motor and not pick up heat, ram's more air into the motor, look's good, improve's performance gaurenteed. Hp per $ is great, what is it that everyone want's that it don't give for just a few $ more? Also if it's such poor quality why is mine held up just fine and still look's good this far down the road? Why listen to the cry baby's and go slower? Just my .02

Ok, I got the S&B with the Oiled filter, I did not get the Optional Snorkel at this time is the snorkel worth it? Hard to put in at a later date?

Hope I made the right choice, I ll try and install it this weekend.
