Just pull the engine out only. I'll have to look at some of my old pics to show you where to bolt down the chains. The chains will bolt up under where the intake manifold was sitting.

Engine out

Finally some headway!

It took us about 10 hours to pull it. I attached some pictures of the truck and some of the garage I am doing it in to show you how much room I DONT have haha :ermm: I also included a picture of valve covers that came off the old engine. They have a thick sludge on the inside. Is this because maybe they ran penzoil? Anyway, Everything came out ok. We did a lot of labeling of wires and things of this nature.

We will install the new engine on Wednesday. In everyone's experience is there anything special I need to look for or adjust specific to this truck? we have pulled and installed several engines just looking for some insight on any specifics. I plan on lock tighting the torque converter bolts but I haven't looked for the torque spec yet. The top drivers side bell housing bolt took me 45 minutes to get out  Please include as many tips as possible. I am especially interested in the engine lining up with the transmission and checking endplay etc. etc. Thank you!

Man, I feel your pain. Back in the 70's I changed out an engine in my 68 GTO in Jan. up in NY. The car only went in 1/2 way so we covered it with a tarp to try and keep the cold out. But the wind would whip in from underneath. The day after we started, we got a 1/2 foot of snow. That actually helped. We packed the snow up under the car and blocked the wind. The problem with that bright idea was, by the time we got the engine done the snow and cold had froze the fuel lines up. My sisters blow dryer took care of that. I am so glad this time, I had a nice cool/warm shop that the whole truck fit in.

Good luck with the install. :thumb:

I would say yes. If its been sitting, its dry. Anyway it doesn't hurt to be safe and not sorry. :thumb:

That stuff stinks. I had to pull mine back out twice for dumb stuff. Had to take the Driver side motor mount off because I forgot to put the stinkin dip stick in first.. Live and learn.
