In post #14 bottom picture you can see the indent on the bottom sprocket just above the chain. The sprocket comes with the indent already on it. You don't put it on yourself. The bottom chain usually has two black marks the indent sits between the marks. And at the top there is a a single black mark that aligns straight up with the cam sprocket. The chain doesn't have to have the black links, but for me it makes the alignment more certain.

Im sorry, I am strickly a 3rd gen guy. I have not worked on a 4th gen so you can disregard my comments.

it's the same procedure, same alignment , same great advice for both.

At the crank shaft it's not at exactly at 6 o'clock. The cam shaft is slightly to the left from 12 o'clock.

Cam Needs to be at 12 , not 11:59, not 12:01.
Crank needs to be 6:00 perfect, not 6:01, not 5:59

Not trying to bust your balls here. but it has to be right,

I understand and thanks. Thought I had it but code p0016 came up checked it again and it was off. The chain won't fit at 6 and 12, guess it has slack. Ordered a new chain to see if it works.

My next question was going to be if the chain was used, the pre Eagles you can get away with a used chain if it's under ..let's say 75Kmile, but the VVT's are HARD on Chains all that extra mass they have to rotate. I'm surprised there are not more failures.

That's why in my opinion those blacks marks are important, they indicate chain stretch, if they are not there I myself will always replace the chain, simple insurance.

Thanks. Does anything special need to be done to the cam phaser from putting the cam in and getting it in time? It's just a stock replacement cam.
nope , line it up , put it back together. cross your fingers that the CEL doesn't come on.

I would double check the push rods to make sure they all are seated.

I don't remember where I bought this push rod holder. But it certainly makes it easier to get the rocker assembly back in place.
