For my truck to drive nice on the street. Have to have the VWG so the truck doesn't take off in traffic or cause a throttle body shut down(limp mod). Even with the VWG, it can still do it but, no where near at bad.

But, running the VWG at the track. The boost pressure shoots up and peaks right when the truck shifts into 2nd gear. Causing the tires to spin a little in 2nd gear with street tires.

Without the VWG at the track. Boost builds and loads up in 2nd gear. No tire spin when shifting into 2nd. Probably due to the extra back pressure between the engine and turbo. Did figure out a cheap solution. :thumb:

Just drilled and tapped the top W/G fitting and installed a long 10-32 bolt and brass washers. It will hold down and not let the VWG valve open up for track use. For street use, just instal the shorter bolt so the VWG can open up under vacuum. The best of both worlds without having to buy a bigger turbo or get new tuning done.:thumb:

Going fast is great fun, but street manners is important for playing on the street. Tough balance..

I don't know enough to make a real contribution, but I thought I read where someone said they run bypassed on the street with boost only coming on with high throttle openings. I assume this is using some type of a VWG with a controller reading TPS signal. Isn't that pretty much what you are doing with the bolts?

I believe that was hemiedup that runs bypassed on the street makes sense but if setup and tuned correctly can run perfectly fine the comp just needs to be told to ignore the map sensor until throttle is last a certain point otherwise the comp will just go by lack of vacuum thinking your going up a hill on light throttle and gas that sucker making a boosted truck very tough to drive

David has mine dialed in I have to go past 3/4 or I don't get boost ever its very nicely set up he knows his stuff and I'm sure my truck was part if the testing to confirm it

Hoping this VWG mod will help my 60' time by making the boost come in sooner. Or at least be able to compare the differences. Take a look at the vid. My boost comes in at the 60' mark and the truck takes off. That's with the VWG and 5psi spring.

Wrapping all the exhaust up to the turbo makes a massive decrease in lag on all the setups I've had. I'm not sure if this is done already, but it is worth the $50 and itchy arms.

Do you have an EGT gauge in the truck? I know at my track it's difficult to get any heat into the turbo leading up to the race. I end up letting my engine idle for a long time burning lots of gas then rev it lots for the few minutes before staging and a long burnout with my water/meth switched off. If you can launch while hotter than 1200*f the turbo will be very responsive. (and engine oil hot) Basically do the opposite of everybody else at the track.
