I am wondering if it is worth it to take it to a shop to get a tune up, I've been looking around and I can get the spark plugs and wires for a pretty good price, and the shops around me want at least $350 to do it. I'm also a novice when it comes to vehicle maintenance, but I do want to learn how to do this stuff. Any one have any suggestions or advice??

I'm pretty sure I have all the tools unless my wife lost them in the last nine months... not exactly sure what i'd need but I know I have the spark plug tools, gap tool and the socket and what I can assume is almost every wrench known to man. I have heard its a huge pain in the ass to do yourself, the plugs are extremely hard to get to and if I have to take alot of stuff apart I may not be able to do it.

IMO, especially if you intend to do any mods you have to do the maintenance yourself as no one else will know your truck as well as you. Changing plugs is not that hard. Download the 04 service manual and while you are still deployed read up when you can. Good luck..
