Trying to program a new keyless entry without an old on available.

Hey guys/gals. I did a search and didn't come up with much, or maybe i need to look harder. But, when i bought my truck last year (2004 ram 2wd) it came with a keyless entry keyfob but it does not work. Its the right one, and it does work because i checked at the local parts store with the testy light thing. I think i read on a google search(and on youtube videos) that you either need the old Keyfob or you have to take the thing to a dealer to get it programmed. I really REALLY don't want to do that. But if that's what i have to do i will. If there's a shortcut, I'm all for it.

Personally I will take red to a crusher before going to a dealer...

I'm glad yall agree. I cringed when i had to get the airbag recall done, but they didnt mess anything up. Anyone have any idea though?

Study the manual and maybe try one of those shops that install security systems and stereos. Talk them to see if they know anything.

Thanks for the info, but that programming requires an already programmed fob to program new ones. So, its no help to me.

Try a locksmith. Some have the equip. to program and may be cheaper than dealer.
