I just purchased the BellTech shackles and Nitro Shocks for my 04 Quad. I've been reading alot about the spring clamps in the front and the rear shackles. Also read about removing the overload spring instead of using the spring clamps. I'm sure the spring clamps would be an easier process but heard that removing the overload spring improves the ride. Anybody have experience w/both?

Removing the helper spring will drop the rear a tad more than the leaf spring clamps will... but forget about carrying any large load in the bed, or towing more than a Jet Ski afterwards. Not sure if the ride would be any better than with the spring clamps.
The thing I like about the spring clamps is if I decide to carry a big heavy load, it takes two seconds to remove the spring clamps!

WOW MrHemi, you can get them off in 2 seconds!

Takes me at least 10-15 minutes! LOL

You ever think of trying out for a Nascar pit crew!

That is a very good point about returning the vehicle to stock. Although I don't tow or haul anything heavy it's always a good option to go back to stock as quickly as possible (2 seconds)

Well, I finally had some Belltech shackles installed on top of Gabriel MaxControl shocks all the way around. In my first post I had bought Belltech Nitro drop shocks. Unfortunately when I ordered them they only sent me one because they were out of stock. Not a big deal until I found out that they were 3 weeks out from the Manufacturer getting them. First of all let me tell you the ride w/the new shocks is like night and day. There's this lane on I80 (the one the Big Rigs always use) out here that has always been bouncing me around. Not anymore
. I think the stock shocks probably rebound too slow. Anyways now the ride is all good. As far as the shackles go, before I put them on the measurement from center of rim to lip of wheel well was 23 3/4. After the shackles it measures 22 1/4, just 1 3/4 inches from level w/the front!!! I'm going to clamp the front of the leafs tomorrow (wife had enough of HEMI attention today). I'll post some pics when the weather gets better out here in N. California.

You'll get close to another inch with clamping the front of the leaf springs... and almost 1.5 inches if you clamp front and back

I used the ground force drop shackles and removed the center leaf spring, made it level. I also have bilsteins all around and a hellwig rear sway bar. I like the ride and I have hauled about 400lbs of concreate with no problem.

Do the drop shackles reduce your payload? The ass end of my QC could come down at least 2" but I don't want to lose too much payload capacity. I'm doing alot of reno's to the house and am constantly hauling something. Last year I made 6 runs to the recyling yard, carrying busted up concrete. The scales had my heaviest load at 1700 pounds. She rode smooooth and didn't bottom out once. These truck can haul more than ass!

The drop shackles won't reduce your payload all that much... it's the spring clamps that will decrease your payload capabilities (but not enough to really worry about). I should say though - if you're hauling around up to 1700 pounds, I'd probably just stick with the drop shackles!

I guess I spoke too soon. Although the ride is great w/the new shocks I definitely hear a knock from the right rear when I go over a bump. I haven't even clamped down the leafs yet. Any ideas to what it may be? I notice it at lower speeds not on the Highway.

Ok it's definitely all good now. I took it back to the shop who installed my shocks and they put the top bolt on the passenger side rear shock on backwards.
I'm not sure if that's true or not but it resolved the knocking sound. I also put the clamps on the front of the leafs and now the Rammie looks killa dilla and the ride feels tight but not harsh or bouncy. This mod as many people know was definitely worth it.

Belltech Drop Shackles $59
Gabriel Max Control Shocks 4x$55= $220
Installation of shocks 4x$12=$44
Pep Boys Leaf Spring Clamps 2x$7=$14
Total: $337.00 for a 2 1/4 inch drop (actually $73 if you don't do the shocks/install)

When you say the middle spring do you mean the one right above the overload spring? I was considering doing this because my rear springs are too heavy and cause oversteer, but I wanted a second opinion from someone who has done it to make sure it won’t be too soft. How much drop would you say just removing the spring gave you?
