With the 46RH conversion successfully completed. Redtruck is in need of a mod or two. Next up is to finally get her tune dialed in. Keith has been doing the heavy lifting and I'm trying to give him a platform that is easier to work on than the Manual flashed automatic based PCM. According to B&G the current pcm flashed to manual trans can have issues due to software and hardware not being terminated properly. Bought a 03 manual PCM from ebay and found it to be junk. Apparently locked up from security lacking compatibility with my truck. Can't tell for sure since I took it to B&G to have it checked and it was DOA. Still going to use it for a core for a new PCM I've ordered. Told the guy it was dead and had been opened but he said "no problem". Manual trans PCM are a fairly rare bird just to note the obvious. The good news is the same pcm is used in Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500. And the vin doesn't necessarily need to match the vehicle. I ran a salvage yard pcm for a couple years before I reflashed it with a vin. Anyway next mod, take the new pcm to Dave@B&G for him to adjust idle, rev and speed limiters. Install a pair of BV heads. Then tune the old girl. I bought one of those push rod holders, so hopefully I won't have the same difficulties I had last time. So that's the run down on Red it's all good...

Called Dave @ API who was a Chrysler engineer. These guys probably supercharge more dodges than anyone else in the nation. I asked if they were having any issues with the dual coil ignitions breaking down. The answer was "no problem at all". I then asked if the 03-05 coils were superior to the dual coils in any way and the answer was "No, they are not more powerful". Asked about using an Automatic PCM and having it flashed to manual and was told again, that the Hardware is different and the manual trans flash may not terminate properly using the automatic hardware. I originally had a 03 auto PCM flashed manual and blamed the tuning difficulties on this. Replaced the PCM with a true manual PCM and there are still some tuning issues. Asked about the differences between 04 and 05 since I have been unable to find a 05 manual PCM and was told I could go with a 04 and have the same tune ability as the 05. So if anyone has a source for a 04/05 manual trans PCM please contact me.

Agreed but, you haven't asked the correct question. It has nothing to do with coil break down or if one coil is stronger than the other designed coil. Not all of us have experienced this problem. Hope you don't either Greg. In my humble opinion, think it's related to tuning.

Boost away.:thumb:

PS. Nice pic. The heat exchanger looks familiar.... :D

Had some time this morning to finish the intercooler heat exchanger installed. Working on a pump mount now, need some hardware from town. ugh....

Installed a new tune this morning. Looks very promising.... I believe I'll be installing the SC soon... now I just hope I didn't jinks myself... lol

Where do the folks who are using charge pipe couplers getting them at?

#544 ·
Thanks, Bill.. The parts hunt continues..

What kind of temperatures do we normally see on a 5psi charge pipe connecting to the intercooler? Is it ok to run the truck with the SC fully installed and not connected to the intercooler/TB? Thinking of loading and unloading on a trailer.
Thanks,

Stu, I've have used the dual coils for a few years now and like I have previously stated ole Red has seen 6700-7000 more times than I can count and I have inspected every set of spark plugs I've run including the heads combustion chambers without any indication of detonation. I'll switch over to SoS coils shortly and I'm confident they will do even better than the stock dual coils. Although I have been bite on the a$$ more than a few times trying to fix something that's not broke I honestly don't expect a problem. Now with that said I fully expect to break this engine at some point mostly because it is stock, ran hard and soon supercharged. If you are uncomfortable using dual coils all I can say is don't use them.....

You can run the blower on the truck just pumping air into engine bay issue free I have done it before without a problem it's basically running NA then. You can also run the blower on 5 psi with meth for safety and no cooler should you wish to do that also issue free.

That's good, I didn't see anyway to short belt it. lol

the issue I've seen in the big HP 3G hemi under boost I mean north of 900WHP is the coil missfire because of the amount of cilinder pressure. that's the reason the record holder ( 6.9x ) 3g hemi runs dual distributors instead of the COP design. altough I don't know at which HP or Boost level this issue starts.

Haha that's twice of what I'll ever make, but any OEM ignition system will suffer flame blow out if cylinder pressure is high enough. If I think I'm getting close I'll run igniter boxes at 14.5 volts. But I don't see any real need for it in my future. :D

Well as they say the testing continues. Been doing some very methodical testing, data logging making slight changes and testing some more. This takes keeping everything the same and only changing the tune a small amount at a time and has lead to many disappointments. I now believe we are very close to installing the SC.... It takes patience and determination to get things right, my hat is off to Keith. The current tune being tested has 4 heat cycles and about 30 miles both town and back roads and is holding up maintaining target idle. None of the previous tunes have lasted this long without degrading as they adapted. Anyway thought I'd share, hopefully not prematurely.

#553 ·
That must take a hell of a lot of time and determination! My hat is off to you!!!

#554 ·
Yes, there has been a lot of tunes and even more data logs trying to figure what works. Keith has done a outstanding job working with the much dreaded 03 PCM.

I've got mine adjusted for 60psi and at idle it is 59-60psi. WOT it may drop to 57psi which I don't think is a problem. Even if it is it is being replaced shortly with a larger pump.

#561 ·
It's always dropped 3-4psi at WOT, I don't think there is anyone out there that doesn't.

#563 ·
Drove another 50 miles on the tune and it did well. New datalog sent to Keith. The idle is a lot stronger now, a few more tweaks and I think it will be totally solid.

#565 ·
Yep, I'm thinking we are making good progress.......

#567 ·
No doubt it'll be a walk in the park.....

#569 ·
Keith, is that a reference to the 03 owners? :D

My drooling is mostly under control these days..... and the twitch is barely noticeable..
