Ok like I stated before, I have been toying with an intake system for the Srt-10 hood and other open style hood owners. Here is what I have done so far:

1. Bought a Vararam intake system. Attempted to make it work with my Srt-10 bumper setup, but never got it to where I wanted it.

2. Bought a chrome Mopar 6 pack intake cover lid

3. Bought a K&N 6pack replacement filter.

4. Cut the bottom out of the Vararam intake setup

5. Used muffler tape, taped up the bottom of the Vararam intake piece I cut out, and shaped it to the filter as best I could

6. Put the three pieces together, installed it, and wa-la! Sweet old school style intake system that works, really gives that sucking sound like old intakes used to do, revs really nice, and looks sweet as hell!

7. The bottom is a work in progress. I am going to see if I can get it cast out of fiberglass or built out of stainless or aluminum, as the plastic is not really that sturdy by itself (taping it really helped a bunch!)

Fabricated that should really be a winner for that type hood.
In my younger days I had a 69- 442.
All I did for more air at that time was turn the lid of the air cleaner
over to expose the filter.
Living in Chicago I had several encounters with some folks who would walk or stand in your way to get you to stop for any number of devious causes.

Slip that four speed down a gear and open that 400 Ci. & 4B Carb up and that Waaaaaaa and sucking sound would scatter them like flys every time.

I think you're on to something Duane. Very nice indeed - great job!

Dang! That is just plain dead sexy, Duane. When I read the thread in my e-mail box (without the pictures showing), I thought, "Oh, big deal...another intake." As I read about your progress, I thought, "This should be interesting...a taped up, oddly formed prototype that might one day end up as something usable...I guess I'll take a look."

But that "prototype" is really hot. I don't even HAVE and SRT-10 hood yet, and I'm drooling over how sweet that thing looks.

You, sir, are quite the talented man. Can't wait to see the final product!

Thank you guys. I got a lot more development to do to it on the bottom end. I really wish I knew someone who was good at fiberglassing, as that is the way I would like to go, but I may end up going with a metal bottom as well. That may be the easier way to go.
Really hated cutting up that Vararam intake system, but I couldn't ship it back, and I wasn't going to sell it to someone else for virtually nothing, so I figured why not do something with it...
The way it sits right now, the front of the intake is sitting about 3-4 behind the opening of the hood!

I will try to get a good picture of where it sits tomorrow.

if you can get the setup right i would love to have one, do you think that you are going to be selling them?

I am not sure yet roberx. Seems there is a nation wide back order on the chrome covers. There was only 3 of them available nationwide! I may have to go with the orange ones if I decide to make these, which seem to be everywhere.

Sweet! Ship it to me buddy.... I am sure I can use it somehow. I have the filter from the vararam, but it is about 3/4" taller than the K&N, so I have to get some longer mount studs for it before I can use it. Should be good to go with longer ones. It went on it's first road test today, and I must say I was impressed! It actually gained me 2 mpg at 70 mph.

SO I am very happy. Now I just need to figure out how to make the bottom like I want it. I have to make it with some kind of lip to hold the filter still, plus I am going to open the pan up some more so more air will dump into it, since the front stud is a lot closer to the leading edge than it is with the Vararam cover. Main reason I went with the Mopar unit is it is steel, instead of plastic, so it will hold up a LOT better.

I like it, but as much as a gassle the fiberglass would be, I think that may be the better route. Or mold and have a plastic one made. Reasons being, that close to the motor, the glass and or the plastic will disapate the heat better and insulate too. If you go with metal, line the underside like the Airram and you should have another winner on your hands. Good job Duane.

Thanks Marc! I would like to cast it out of plastic (I am leaning towards white for heat reflectivity) but I have no place around here that will do it. SO I will have to either go with fiberglass (which is really heavy) or metal, probably use aluminum if I go that route to save some weight.

It looks sweet....great job, can't wait to see your finish product!

I read on Vararam that they have put in quite a bit of developing on their product especially for Hemis but the only thing I did not like is the tubes that tunnel air from the bottom of the bumper, tubes should be straight to give more smoother air flow....

Yea, I was trying to make some tubing out of aluminum for it, but there just isn't enough room to run them the way they needed to be ran.

Very cool! Nice job.
Thanks George! Everybody seemed to like it a the car show yesterday.

I have a good friend that runs a fiberglass company here. If you were closer, we could probably get something done. http://www.rezplast.com/
Hmm, maybe I can send it to him this winter and get something fabbed up?
