Max, this is very close to a stock install. Using the special flex plate allows the use of a a518/46rh torque converter . Cross member bolts up with mounting holes slightly slotted using the 545RFE rear mount. The driveshaft can be reused without modification. I use a floor shifter for the 3 spd transmissions. 727, A518, 46rh, turbo 350, 400....
I think it wouldn't take a whole lot to use the ram column shifter if someone really wanted too. The cooling lines I recommend making custom lines. I first cut the metal oem cooling lines off at the rear of the block and used rubber hoses clamped onto them. I had one blow off rather quickly and I thought I'd burnt up the new trans. So do it right the first time. I've outlined the most common ways of connecting the TV cable. Keith will be doing a connection on his 05 which will cover all bases. Alternative cables can be made from heavy-duty throttle cable or better yet vintage motorcycle clutch or brake cable. I use 6mm clutch cable that I buy from a guy in England. The od and tcm lockup is done by grounding it's wire from the trans. There is a three wire plug the center wire is 12v supply and the other two control od/tc by grounding through a simple toggle switch or pressure switches adjusted for predetermined speed. There are different dip stick tubes. I don't know how to identify one from the other except by diameter. I use a larger one with a rubber insert unmodified. It has a bracelet that bolted up to a bell housing bolt. I stripped the trans harness completely out of my truck which is easier said then done. Recommend doing it with the trans removed. The only wires from the truck that needs considering is the backup light which has a 12v supply that connects internal to the trans via plug that makes when placed in reverse. Also the p/n wire that senses when the trans is in either park or neutral for starting. The A518 is a good fit..
Now if you have the money I would use a 727 and a Gear Vendor unit making the trans into a 6 spd. They say they haven't seen a drag car that wasn't quicker by splitting 2nd gear. This combo can support 3000hp.
