How's the progress with the tranny now? An off topic, but I can't start a new topic or pm you on my phone, seems like this forum an my phone don't like each other. I was gonna ask when you did 4/6 on ur truck im assuming you have spindles. How you get them to work with 17s I thought there's an issue with them working on a 17.

Still waiting on a response from ats on the transmission end but the drop is a rear flip front spindles and springs they won't fit with 17s unless you you a skinny lower balljoint nut with the built in Teflon lock stuff and then cut the balljoint stud off flush with the nut then there's about 1/4" clearance between joint nut and rim

this is a pic of the tie rod uncut but to get the balljoint to fit and not hit you have to cut the end off of it flush with the nut

Well today got a call from ats there out of the question they swear it will hold the power and stand behind it just out of my price range

Now going to call ATF speed down south and see what they have to offer hopefully it's good news

If they are a no go then will call sharadon for one or have a local friend build me one with the red eagle alto kit and my converter but we will see its killing me though not being able to drive the truck

Oh man am I s.o.l.

Called ATF today and asked about quotes I had dent received yet and was told they can't build a trans for my power level just 450 area they say it's the tuning side I told them I had tuning under control they gave me the runaround basically saying nope multiple times so now I'm really stuck do I go with a sharadon or do I take my spare in the garage and get the eagle clutches and steels with a transgo kit offline and order a stronger converter it would cost 1200 that route or should I just keep melting transmissions

If anyone has any ideas help I'm not against manual trans either keisler makes an awesome trans no clutch needed once rolling that would be good for the track

Help need advice

Maybe ATF has been having problems with our 545RFE transmissions. Then I would say Sharadon would be your best bang for the buck. The other transmission, computer, trans adapter, ect, ect, will cost you big bucks. Or, you could go with a Turbo400 trans. Their very strong. And you can get all kinds of performance parts for them. But, you might have to do a stand alone computer on the engine. Most people just go with the Sharadon. I think that they have a stage 4 trans now.

Notes: If you do go with the Sharadon trans, get the Edge Pro Torque Racing Converter with the trans. You must drive the truck around to break in the clutches. At least 1200 miles before you stomp the gas. You'll have to trust me on this.

id kill to have a th400 in mine. Trans break + 4x4 launch... Probably need eyeball braces.

Or u could do the stand alone setup. Like FAST XFI then a stand alone controller for a th400, or a 4l80e which is basically a 400 with an overdrive.

But Josh's truck ran good with the sharadon stage 2 that he built on the phone with Jerry and Denny and Sharadon also had one of their trannys behind KORE's baja truck and it didnt crap out

How many trucks are still running the fully built Sharadon trans with no problems?

My trans still slips in 4th gear while down shifting 60-70mph in tow/haul mode. Down shift into 3rd with the tow/haul mode off, and it takes off like a rocket. But the Sharadon trans is made for track performance. And that's where it truly shines.

Try not to do down shifting with WOT with the overdrive still on. The clutches will last longer. One of my other favorite things about the Sharadon trans. When you drive normal on the street. It shifts like a stock trans. Doesn't slam into the next clutch when shifting on normal driving.

Good solid shift at WOT. Not slamming shifts like you would get with some of the other shift kits on a different trans.

Keith, let Sharadon build your trans. Don't do it yourself. Trust me, it's better that way.

And make sure you get nothing but the best Edge T/C. Sharadon does their trans builds using the Edge T/C. A 2800rpm stall is a great all around T/C for our trucks. Don't go anything bigger than a 3000rpm stall. There are some trans computer problems there with our trucks. Especially if you plan on driving the truck around every day. When I had that bad Edge 3000rpm stall T/C. It mad me think that the trans had a shifting lag or clutch drag problem. It wouldn't shift right. That's why I sent the bad blown up T/C and the trans back to Sharadon for a full trans and clutch inspection. They did have to replace some clutches and the T/C.

And did they say if they have a stage 4 trans??????

I know Darell with the 392 turbo has one thats running strong. Everybody jumped ship and went with ATS since they have their warranty but you pay over 1g more than a sharadon one and get pretty much the same thing.

I read that they had a stage 4 in the works awhile back and i'm sure now they have one.

You're exactly right on the treatment of these transmissions though Stu. Dont ever do a WOT downshift from anything over like 20mph. I know ever since Dave tuned my tranny the trucks drivability went WAY up since I can actually accelerate in traffic from a roll. Little gas and it downshifts into 3rd instead of 2nd prime. I think I've only done like 3 WOT downshifts with this truck and that was back when it had 500 miles on it and was all stock
