Well as some of you know I am a new member here and was looking for a place to place to start my build thread! So the Va section of the forum it is! So for a little fill in I have an 06 ram 1500 slt. Hemi power of course! It is a standard cab short bed. or shorty as I like to call them. I traded in my old 98 ram for this on due to it being just to flat out worn out! But the 5.2 still ran good!! So the plan for this build is both cosmetic and performance. I want a great street truck that can play at the track too! Here is a couple of current pics!

First mod was to add factory fog lights!

Next was to delete the rear bumper and tint the tail lights!!

Future plans are a Mopar A body hood scoop, a simple but striking paint job, lowering,A 518 trans, and a "few" engine mods!!!( FEW? right!!!LOL):coolsmiley: and ether a locker or limited slip diff, and lastly a set of cal tracs!

Well good news! I lowered Grace! Boy was that some work!!!LOL I will post pics soon! But my stock tires are not going to work! Any one got ideas for lower profile tires on stock 20 inch rims?

I have used 285/55-20 on 06 oem wheels successfully. Also Yokohama Parada tires are being sold at good prices. I would stay with tires no taller than 31 inch max. I use 30 as the tallest I'll use. The rest is personal preference.

Checkout the yokohama parada's, I'm using them for the first time and so far I like them.

I have a stagger setup with 235/55-20 frt and 295/45-20 rear.

Haha it's low enough.... actually both frt and rears are the same height. 30"

Of course it's difficult to get the rail positioned right. But the oem rail ends are shorter than the modern muscle rails they say to use. The center to center distance will be the same. Makes me wonder why they said to use modern muscle rails except the oem rails has the cross over tube in the middle. Which isn't very large and feeding an entire bank of injectors. That's enough for me not to want to use the oem. Now if you did a little brazing you could use larger fittings with AN cross over and feed it any way you like. The mounting tabs will also need to be removed. If you need a spare set of oem rails pm me you address and I'll send you a set.

My bad, lost track of who's thread I was posting to....

Could be uneven spring wrap steering the rear out of line. The leaf springs are pretty flexible. Either way whether it be traction or just spring movement traction devices usually cure it to where it's almost eliminated. Keith's bars apparently work great. I have Caltrac's on Red for a long time without issues.

Grace can easily break the tires loose in 2nd. I have to work the peddle to keep her from roasting the 1 wheel!!!LOL I really need a locker! I hope to be installing the long bars in a couple of days!

#310 ·
When you install the locker will you be also changing gears?

#315 ·
You might check Summit Parada yokohama they have some very good pricing for the larger tires. The smaller ones in the front cost more than the rears.??

#319 ·
Well I did it I admit the truck responds a lot better! BUT It will still catch a wheel shifting from 1st to 2nd!!LOL I guess it is time to save up for that locker! No need in doing engine mods if it can't hold the power it has now!
