So, I was in line to get my kid from school when my engine temp nearly pegged all the way. Chimes went off all that good stuff. But, before I could react the temp started falling and returned to normal. Drove home, no issues. Gonna start with a flush and fill. Obviously checking for leaks while in there.
Anything else I should look at? Thanks in advance

Your call, but I would just fill and insure there is no air bubble in the mix. There are times that a Flush will dislodge some particulate and plug it elsewhere. Maybe hold off on the flush until you do the rest. ;)

Nowadays a flush is a useless thing to do. If something is truly plugged up then with how small the holes are in the radiator it won’t unplug anything worth while.
Make sure it’s full if it is then thermostat likely got stuck closed.

The thermostat sounds more like the problem, I have not had an issue since. I have a new one on the way. I don't know when the last time the coolant was exchanged, but if it was when I am thinking then it would have been 10 years ago. My truck sat in storage for 2 1/2 years so I had all fluids drained and exchanged.
