We have all had set backs time to time. Jerk the front off to see what's up....
yup, mine ran for 3 days after the head & cam swap. Then the impeller fell off of the brand new water pump and the thing literally melted down in 4 miles between my house & the gym. Wound up having to have a whole new engine built and installed. Why ? Because the day after I finished the original swap, I had major shoulder & bicep surgery and my arm was in a cast/ brace for the next 4 months.

We've all been there dude. Just build it back better this time. Git 'er dun !

Ok took front cover off. I saw no where it is rubbing. I had to use rtv on case cover. I think all that metal looking stuff is actually rtv that got chewed by cam sproket. Now the whining may be the oil pump. When I turn motor over by hand the oil pump hisses like air escaping. Under higher rpms I could see where this might could make the sound. Here some pics...

I think it depends on the timing set you have also. The crower set I used had the cam/crank gears chain and tensioner then the oil pump drive sprocket. 1.75" hole in center with 3-4 raised and lowered sections on a round collar that fits over crank between gear and oil pump

I see your problem now, that crappy "Pukalator" filter.:lol::lol:

Lol. I just put that on. Normally been running Mopar filter.. was trying different things before I tore it apart. I'm gonna replace ghetto oil pump. I have a 6.1 on there now. Can someone confirm its part number. .

I installed a Mullins oil pump a few months back and have no issues. It came with two different relief springs so you can choose what you want.

Hey greg.. any noise from the pump. Did u change the spring or leave it how it came. Did u have to center it on the crank and if so how did u do it. Who else is using the melling oil pump as an upgrade. I just don't want to do this again. Making sure all my ducks are in a row... thanks..

I installed the 65psig spring and primed the pump with lube. I didn't do anything special as for installing it. No noise from the pump that I can detect. I took the pan down and inspected the pickup tube and installed a new "O" ring. When I got the front back on I primed the engine through the oil pressure sensor hole with 2 quarts of oil. Haven't had any problems from it.

The instructions come with the pump, you unscrew a plug and take out the spring and replace it with the optional spring and tighten the plug. I think there is only something like 10 psi difference between the two springs. I believe it did come with a pickup tube O ring, but I used a new one from the dealer.

Ok. Thanks. In your thread on loss of oil pressure, u mentioned something about the harmonic balancer might have been put on too far damaging the pump. I put mine on until it bottomed out. I wonder if it could have been rubbing the pump causing my whine issue.. Idk though..

If I remember right there is a shoulder it goes against and can't go on too far. Just make sure you prime the engine/pump before starting the engine.
