03 hemi.. installed custom grind cam, New lifters, 6.1L timing set, oil pump, springs, rods, and chain tensioner.. it idles great, runs good, but have this annoying whine. Only when accelerating. .. does it in park, neutral, drive.. I taken the belt of and ran it and noise is still there.... Who else has the noise and what was done to fix it or did u leave it alone.. thanks for any input.

Since you have metal showing I'm going with Keith on a cover possibly rubbing. It has that bit of sound to it and there isn't anything to generate shavings except for the spinning converter and the cover/bolts.

It was seated all the way. Manual says 1/2" in from bellhousing. That is what it was. Stock one measures that to. When I unbolted the converter I could push it back about 3/8". So when I put the tc bolts back in and tighten it up it pulls the converter out 3/8". I think this is allowing the tc snout to go to far in towards the engine. I am thinking about this right??

Where did the metal shavings come from you previously mentioned seeing?

I think when you find the source of the metal dust you will have found your noise.

Did you check every TC bolt? i had one come loose on me and it was rubbing on the flex plate making a noise (not like yours but still a noise) and I had fine metal from the bolt head being involuntarily machined down.

How about starter motor clearance? Are there any marks on it?

Well bad news... not the converter or trans... I unbolted the tc. Started her up and noise is still there. It is 100% in motor. Someone suggested to pull out cam sensor and good grief what I found was not good... I'm so disgusted and discouraged... everything went together so good and I don't know what happened. .. see pic...

yup, mine ran for 3 days after the head & cam swap. Then the impeller fell off of the brand new water pump and the thing literally melted down in 4 miles between my house & the gym. Wound up having to have a whole new engine built and installed. Why ? Because the day after I finished the original swap, I had major shoulder & bicep surgery and my arm was in a cast/ brace for the next 4 months.

We've all been there dude. Just build it back better this time. Git 'er dun !
