I purchased a new auto-dimming mirror on ebay and I installed it today. Not knowing what to expect, I'm posting removal of the overhead console, lowering of the headliner and because my truck is an SLT, it already had the wiring harness for the mirror taped on top of the headliner. 6 pictures explains it all.

Picture one is of the overhead console light lens removed. You'll see the pivot points and mounting tab which is easily removed with a small, thin screwdriver:

This shows the two screws and pivot pins for the lenses inside the console: This message has been edited. Last edited by: MrHemi, document.write(''+ myTimeZone('Mon, 29 Jan 2007 16:13:44 GMT-0800', '29 January 2007 07:13 PM')+''); 29 January 2007 07:13 PM

This pic shows the two clips that hold the front of the console in place, simply pull the front down to unlatch: This message has been edited. Last edited by: MrHemi, document.write(''+ myTimeZone('Mon, 29 Jan 2007 16:15:04 GMT-0800', '29 January 2007 07:15 PM')+''); 29 January 2007 07:15 PM

The next two pics show the sunvisor support. Simply pull down on the forward half and the support stays attached to the headliner, but the headliner can now be pulled down: This message has been edited. This last pic just shows where the connector was located, taped on top of the headliner: This message has been edited. Last edited by: MrHemi, document.write(''+ myTimeZone('Mon, 29 Jan 2007 16:19:01 GMT-0800', '29 January 2007 07:19 PM')+''); 29 January 2007 07:19 PM

Ooops, good point. The mirror is perfect! Tried and tested and works great, something I've missed since I traded my '97 Ram in. And it was as advertised, brand spankin' new too. $138.00 at the dealership, $20.50 on ebay plus $4.95 shipping. Great deal.

Thanks again for your help!

Hey Pup. Can you tell me real quick if there's a spring behind those light covers or something? Last night I reached up to turn on the left one then turned it back off when I was done and felt something give, now it feels loose in there and won't "click" If you push on it it just flops around in there. Feels like a spring popped out of the switch or something.

Check that, Pup. I popped off the cover and Houston, it looks like we have a problem.

The support (cheap plastic) for the switch has broken off on one side.... I may be able to rig it. Breakin' out the hot glue gun. We'll see what happens.

No, to be honest, I don't remember seeing any springs anywhere in the console at all. If you look closely at one of the posted pics above (the one that shows both light bulbs) you'll see the two white push-button "switches" which is what is pushed in when you push either lens cover to turn the light on and off.

If I remember correctly, it was the spring inside these white switches that provided the resistance. Now if you look closely again, you'll see that these white switches are mounted in a rectangular slot and it may have shifted or moved out of position on you. If you look closely at the picture above that one you'll see a close-up of the plastic lens itself. The tab on the left has to be pushed inward slightly to release it, which you can do carefully with a small thin screwdriver. I actually remember using a similar small thin screwdriver to push in on the front (towards the windshield) sides to pry the lens off of the mounting pins.

Just be careful, but as I've seen in other posts, you're more than capable of being successful.

Hope this helps.

Done deal. Since one of the side pieces that supports the switch was busted and apparently departed for parts unknown (I couldn't find the piece that broke off) I hot glued the crap out of the switch around it's neck and held it in place then filled in around it with hot glue to help support it. It's working now, not sure for how long or for how many clicks of the switch since I couldn't get behind it to fill in with glue to key it in. We'll see how long it sticks to plastic from the front side.

And no treats for you tonight, either. You've been a very, very bad boy.
