Well I had a thread about doing a cam swap, now that is over, time to re-start all over again and do it right! I do it nice, cause I do it twice!

I had really wanted to do a stroker kit the first time around, but time and financial constraints weren't allowing me to. But after I found out the fresh rebuild was burning major amounts of oil in cylinder 1, I decided to just go for it. To start the process, I chose to get a used 5.7 block and build the stroker first. When its all completed with the necessary machining and installation, I'll pull my old engine out and swap over the heads and accessories. I've already added a Comp 260, new valve train, torque converter, oil pump and timing set the first time around, so I have a good base to start with. So after a bit of searching, I found a blown engine at a local junkyard for $400. They didn't have any info on why it was blown or the mileage, but I figured I would be only using the bare block and it would be over-bored to begin with so it couldn't be too bad. Any other usable parts would be experimented with or sold to help recoup the cost. After pulling the heads I found the reason it was blown, cylinder 6 had no piston head left, it was completely blown out with just the rod and wrist pin left. So I will have to have one piston re-sleeved, I don't think that is a big deal in the end. Other then that, all the other cylinders are at standard bore size and should clean up well. At this point I have the engine stripped to the bare block, tomorrow I'll start with the wire brush to remove all the old paint and rust. Then it will be sent to my local performance shop to bore it out and get it re-sleeved.
I plan on using the SCAT Modern Muscle Stroker Kit from Summit Racing. It's in my price range and comes balanced. So feel free to pitch in any suggestions or tips!

Ok that’s good news. I’ll do more research tonight, maybe come up with something. I wasn’t planning on using the factory shifter but now that I think about it, it would be awesome. It would look so much better then an aftermarket ratchet shifter

Take a look at Altronic shifter for a 3spd. T350/t400 or a 727.

You mean the shift computer? That's way more then I want to spend on it, I'd rather just use an aftermarket shifter

What caught my eye was it can be set for a certain rpm and shift on its own..

Ok here are the pics. Just as I assumed, there is a manual cable to select P-R-N-D, then there is an electric harness to handle any manual shifting by bumping the stick to the right or left. I really feel like I have all the pieces to use it on my fully manual transmission. The only question now is if I can use the cable to shift into D, and use that for 1st gear. Then hook up an electric solenoid to shift 1-2 and 2-3. Then have my switches mounted to handle the OD and LU.

This is what I'm wondering with a 46RE transmission. My understanding is the governor sends a signal to the trucks PCM with information. The computer reads that info, and then sends a signal back to the valve body to make it shift, correct? If that is true, then when voltage is applied to one of those pins on the connector, it should shift in the desired direction. Now is it possible to hook up to that pin directly from my shifter so when I bump shift it, it will signal the valve body to shift up or down? I am assuming there isn't much more to it then that, since it is a pretty simple transmission with 7 control/power/ground wires. I can figure out the electrical side fairly easily, I am just not as familiar with how the transmission actually works yet.

The governor controls the lone pressure and that's what controls the shifts with the springs. The trans is still basically mechanical the governor just takes over where the RH tailshaft governor would normally be changing line pressure as the rpm goes up. The main reason for the RE was in the 4x4 units and allowing it to be a shorter assembly.

Ok then I’m guessing an electric solenoid hooked up to a bracket on the transmission would be my only option with using the factory console shifter.

Test fitting is in progress. Looks like there will be some trimming of the console to fit up to the dash. Not sure how bad the fit will be.

Looks a comfy arm rest...

I’ll tell you what, I’m getting really nervous now that it’s time to start cutting and trimming things. It’s hard to figure how it fits up so I’m worried about cutting the wrong things.

See if any factory pieces can make the fabricstion easier.

I need the trim piece that goes right here on the passenger side. Not sure where to get it, I’m sure it’s rare

How about LMC?

I did some searching and found the part number. It’s about $35 online. I will stop at the dealership tommorow and See if they happen to have it in stock and how pricey it is there. Then maybe call a junkyard or two and see if they have it. Not a big deal, hope it fits better. I don’t want to cut too much more until I see the part

Gotcha ..

Here is the progress for tonight. It still needs quite a bit of trimming, but i have to wait until I have that trim panel. It's not bolted down yet, I have to wait for the finished position before I work on the mounts. I'll probably have to fab up some stuff to mount it to the floor. Also I will have to cut the side open to fit in the 4x4 shifter, maybe I can make an angled shifter rod so it fits better. Overall I'm super excited in how it's working out and looks! I am pretty much willing to do whatever it takes to get the factory shifter to work. I really hope I can work that out.

Trick...

Looks real good,

looks like it came that way from the factory

From 5 feet away maybe haha. Still a lot more mods and trimming needed. I ordered a trim panel from the dealership today, it should be in on Monday. I did leave it in the truck and drove to work with it today, it feels amazing! The arm rest is perfect, the cup holders are way more convenient, the console storage is better, and I just really like having a console instead of a bench. Even if it doesn't line up perfectly in the end, it's well worth it.

Hid a sneaky Pete NOS bottle in the Console , run the hose in a 5/8 Heater hose, in to the back of the intake...Not that I would ever have done anything like that.

#185 ·
That is a very real possibility....
Probably won’t put it under the console though, there isn’t as much room as you would think

Engine shop just called. Said they left a message earlier this week saying it was done. I️ never got it haha. So all is well today, as soon as work is out I’m headed straight there. Pics to follow!
