Ok.. this stupid coolant leak somewhere around my T-stat housing is driving me nuts!

2 yrs or so ago I found a leak there, pulled the cover and found that somehow antifreeze was leaking around the seal on the t-stat. There was a HUGE dried lump of it in the opening on the block and naturally it was in an area I could not clearly see. CAREFULLY I used a small flathead and cleaned most of it out, I couldnt feel nor see (with phone pictures) anymore so I went ahead and put in a new T-stat. about a year later, leaking again. I pulled the cover and found that somehow the stupid t-stat had moved when I was reassembling last time and somehow the stupid rubber seal got cut. My son went and got me another tstat again (they didn't have any rubber seals). This was maybe 5 months ago?

I put a good layer of RTV on the housing to make sure it sealed and now recently I started smelling coolant AGAIN.. WTF? THis morning I moved the truck back and could see dried collant on the floor, not much but it was there.

I went out and tried to take pictures under the housing and most of them weren't worth crap, I did get a manageable one and using PSP I was able to adjust it to see better and there is no signs!

Any idea's?

Damn.. I don't have a website to keep my images.. :(

I've been trying. Waited till truck cooled down, took some pictures, no sign of a leak anywhere. Got my Simple Green, sprayed down all of the front of the block - anywhere water could leak, kept it damn (respraying) and after about 15 min rinsed it off. Then took the truck out on the freeway and got it upto running temp and came back home making sure I was hard on it when I could safely do so and no Sheriff or CHP around and when I got home? No signs anywhere! Took a couple more pictures - burning my arm on the radiator - and nothing! Parked it in the garage, no signs on the floor at all.

WTF?

It's not a constant leak, only now and then ( the THEN being when I'm not expecting it)....

My stat housing does not have a seal, only the rubber seal around the tstat itself. As I said, there is a layer of RTV on the stat housing from the last time we worked on that but I did buy a stat housing gasket today when I went and bought a new stat housing, the inside of mine was a little messed up, saw this when I took it off last time but it should not have caused a leak, it was only inside the neck where it was pitted and flunky...
