I have an 03 Hemi Ram with the ABS light blinking after the tire size adjustment with the Diablo Preditor tuner.

This is a continued discussion from the Megasquirt topic. http://hemitruckclub.infopop.c...0068252/m/9291057246

Truck info:
03 Dodge Ram QC SB
Forged 5.7(348) 9:1 CR
KRC210(RV)cam
Manley valve springs, push rods and valves(OEM size)
SRT4 injectors
SRT4 2bar map
Front mount T76 turbo
Twin 38mm W/Gs
50mm BOV
Front mount air to air after-cooler
Snow Performance stage II W/M kit
Twin OEM fuel pumps, 50psi steady fuel pressure(each pump feeds one side of the fuel rail)
KRC 5psi boost mild street tune
DiabloSport Predator U7137.(Stock rev & speed limiter settings)
4" full length exhaust with diesel straight through performance muffler
Edge 2800 stall T/C
Sharadon stage III trans
Trutrac Posi
4.56 gears
Caltracs Traction bars

442rwhp/487rwtq with 8psi boost.
488rwhp/534rwtq with 10psi boost.

13.18@105.83 with 8psi boost, full street trim and OEM 20" wheels and tires(275/55/R20).

Preparing for 10psi boost track run in full street trim.

NOTE: Had NO problems or adjustments done with this tune since 4/8/09.

The reason for the tire size change was due to the truck hitting the speed limiter just before the end of the track(105mph). The engine was also hitting the rev limiter(5800rpm) at each trans shift point. Was told there would be no problems with adjusting the tire size to possibly hold off the speed limiter at the end of the track. That's when the ABS light started to blink after the tire size adjustment.

TooCool, I do remember someone fighting a surge problem, I didn't realize it was you. Actually it's somewhat a common problem well documented now. As you no doubt now know it is intake reversion causing the MAP to send conflicting signals. I initially played with modifying the MAP sensor itself in restricting the sensitivity. Failed with that, but the simple solution is to adjust the MAP output signal to lean the idle and it steady's right out with added timing plus a raised idle it really does fix the issue. Split Second "Cam Tuner" works and PSC1 makes a even better setup. If Diablo didn't understand what was causing it then I really have to question their level of understanding of anything tune related.
I so want to stop quoting your posts, but when you come up with some of this ignorance, it has to be brought to light.

Considering some of the BEST tuners in the country were helping TooCool with his issue, and it took that long to sort out, I will promise you it was not as simple as you seem to think it was in hindsight.
I suppose its really easy to sit here and act like it should have been a simple fix when you've not likely ever properly tuned a PCM before.

If you are so confident that you could have fixed this in one shot, you should pick up CMR and start making some serious money, there's plenty of cammed HEMIs with drivability issues that I'm sure could use your magic tunes.

Maybe you'd be willing to enlighten Johan as to how to properly tune a HEMI, since he is responsible for some of the fastest, most powerful, and best running HEMIs in the world.

I fully understand that you dont like us/me, but trying to tout your lack of tuning prowess by talking down to the person who literally brought tuning to this world is ridiculous. Also, inline trickery boxes are not proper tuning, lying to the PCM is not the correct way to do anything.

Hows that Megasquirt coming? LOL.
Mike, please don't stop quoting me, it's likely the only unbiased information that the forum members will recieve from your posts.
The tuning that I have achieved on my truck was not done with a single try, it took research, testing, learning and trying several different approaches before I found something that worked. Using the DSP was only one of the failed attempts. As for your engineers, their achievements or in the case of the 03, the lack of, speaks for it self. As for helping my fellow forum members I think it's a duty that one accepts when joining a forum to provide the best opinion that they can based on what the individual knows. Sponsor's on the other hand should be held to a higher standard providing only expert advice concerning their products they are attempting to sell. If it is enlightenment you seek, then you give me way too much credit. When speaking of my ignorance, of which you know nothing about me, I agree I have plenty, equally I know nothing of you other than what you have posted on various forums. So I'll only say at least ignorance is curable.

Mike and Greg,

The both of you have good points on this subject and I do appreciate the help from both of you.

Looking at a problem and giving positive feedback will only produce positive results. Had to learn this one for myself. It only took 50 years.

On a positive note.

The truck made it into the 12s in full street trim and OEM wheels and tires. Very happy with this.

Stu, congratulations with the excellent performance. Well done!
Lets hope your truck can now get sorted out.
Or as you have pointed out, let’s think positively about it. Very Zen… lol
As for Mike/Diablo it is time for him to step up and fix your truck or he will have proven to everyone he is just talk.
Good luck..

Congrats on getting into the 12's, Stu!!!

tire size change when loading a tune can be a problem. safest way to change tire size is Quick Adjust only. tire size is separate from your custom tune. so you have not changed your custom tune at all.

It does make sense. Assumed that with a custom tune, tire size had to be changed at the tune and not at the quick adjust. Add the locked tune..... Hummmm.....
Image

Can you confirm this Mike?
No, tire size is not part of the tune in any way, it can only be changed with the handhelds themselves.

Congrats on the nice pass!

Now that you have accomplished your goal, do you forsee a trip to sofla at any point in the future?

Thanks

When I go into the KRC 5psi boost tune. It does give the option for custom tune adjustments, spark, fuel, timing, tire height or tire size. Would think if the tune is locked, shouldn't show any of that stuff?

Thanks Greg, Joe, Dave & Mike. Very happy with that run. Took three tries. Finally got the street tires to hook in the grove with 22psi rear tire pressure. Also adjusted the W/M to spray at 3psi boost.

Did notice on the way to the track that the speedometer was 2 to 3mph faster at 65mph than the GPS. That's when I remembered the tire size was set in the tune to the 22" Kumo tires. 33" not 32.5"
Image
Will set the tune tire size to 33" when I get a chance.

Possibly around March 3rd time frame(25th Mopar Nationals in Davie Fl.). Not sure yet though. Will have to wait to see my work schedule first.
Image
Davie, really?
Thats right down the street from where I live, interesting....

Mike, is there anything you can do if Stu just sent you his PCM? Like, remove the tune, reset the PCM and reload the tune?
No, I believe this issue lies in the ABS module itself.

Did Mike make it with the forum move? Hello Mike, are you out there????:D
I'm here, and liking the new look :)

I have been following this thread with interest and i have to say the thought of doing any thing radical with my truck scares the shit out of me. Down here if things go wrong, who do I call, Ghostbusters?
There are a few adventous owners outside Conus that have modified Rams. But it isn't easy. Here in the PI there is no support for the Rams. I saw a really nice 2G in Manila last September. And there was a guy that popped in a couple of times from the Subic area with a 3G diesel. I never see any Rams here in Northern Luzon. There is a Lightning running around, but most everything is Japanese imports. I can't rely on the dealer at home. They are completely clueless as most dealers are when it comes to modified vehicles. So no matter where you are, when you get to playing with your truck you really on your own to keep the old girl running. It's just the way it is..:coolsmiley:

I take your collective points on board, but The reality for me is the truck ticks all the boxes in the world of cool. There is nothing like it for miles around and to be honest I'm over the go fast bug, though I appreciate the efforts of all who push it to the limit.

As they say , "If it aint broke dont fix it", but if it is, there aint no one anywhere who has the knowlege or skills required. Another reason i sit, watch, listen and chuckle to myself as you guys go at it. This is better than TV.

Another way to clear codes in an abs module is disconnect batt and touch the terminals together for 10s this drains all the capacitors in the modules and they forget everything then hook up and drive if that light still flashes you have a bigger issue stu then it would Deff req getting it scanned I can scan it with my tool I had at rally if we see each other before you fix it

#77 ·
This didn't work for me when I had my issues.

#82 ·
Shipmate, I would hate to see you let this slide, especially with the brakes being compromised. But it is your truck, and you know what is best for it.

#81 ·
yeah sometimes it doesn't I will be getting my pcm here soon so I will be able to load the tcm tune side and once I load the tune I am not touching the tcm side ever again only the pcm side so there will be no issues anymore and I can take full advantage of the speedy and hard shifts and not my manually shifted delay crap I do now leaving me able to control the truck on accel better with two hands

#83 ·
I wouldn't call it "letting it slide"Greg. Just have quite things going on right now. My plan is to drive down and let Mike take a direct look at the problem. And to get his opinion as well as a possible fix. I'm sure Mike will have no problem helping me out.

Have adjusted the time size before without have the ABS light start blinking(29"). Believe that "I" took it way out of it's scale and that's what caused the problem. So, I take responsibility for it. After all, I was the one pressing the buttons and agreeing to the adjustments. :eek:ops2::thumb::thumb:
