Ok all these trains are basically the same internally design wise. The 47/48 have a stronger planetary set in them but it is interchangeable into the 518/46 models. I have a 518 that I am tearing down now for a rebuild. The trains as of rite now needs a front planetary it is aluminum and only 4 pin design that's not going to work for me upgrading to steel 5 pin set. The rear planetary I cannot get to yet as there is what they call an 800lb spring that requires a press to get out. This is not a step that in anyway can be or should be done without a press it can kill you! Look at this thing

Nice, disco light show on my dash board. As long as I can keep the check engine light off, I'm good.

The indicator lights are leds and I don't recommend removing them. If you don't want them to illuminate remove the cluster and slip a piece of black paper under the gauge cover and the cluster. It'll block the light from showing.

For those of you wanting to switch from a 545 ATS Diesel has a solution they've already created a conversion package to move to the A518/46rh/46re/47/48re. More information will be posted soon. :thumb::thumb:

Is there a link? I couldn't find one.

All I found for the hemi was the 545rfe. Nothing about the a518..

I have an A500 sitting in my shop that I had in a 1991 Dakota that used to be a project of mine. It had a MP shift kit and clutches put in just before I yanked the engine out and its been sitting ever since, around ten years now. I would have to upgrade the thing but I'll bet it would still hold up better than the 545.

Well a small issue has come up with a 46rh into 4x4. The RH version of the trans is 5" or so longer than the RE version. The RE will bolt in just like the RH 2wd setup with no needed mods at all only issue being there is no standalone controller out for it that I can find yet. So what it's looking like is that a RH will require driveshaft mods to make it work. I am asking around to see what options there are to make an RE length trans work maybe full manual style but we will see how that goes.

damn.

95' 46rh (hydraulic controls), 96' 46re (electronically control)

Yep that! The RE is shifted like our 545 trans and using throttle % and load it dertermines line pressure and shift timing. It is however the same damn trans in there minus the electronics it can be manually shifted. So with that said I am wondering if there is an option to make the thing run full line pressure all the time and just shift it yourself and run the OD and LU like the RH setups. We will see what I dig up on this here soon enough

All comes down to management of the speed governor (line ptessure) electronically since the mechanical one is removed.
