04's are the only GTX, 05's are GTxtreme, Black was an 05 color only , from the research my friend has done there are only fourteen 05 black trucks, it's going to be a hard task finding any GTX/GTxtreme's in this area, my friend who use to post here(ric3xrt) he's got 9 total right now., six 04s and three 05's ironically sublime green is the only color he doesn't have one in...... when they pop up he snatches after a week if they are not sold.
I have two 04s one Plum Crazy and the other is a Top Banana, that was repainted Citron Yellow by LA West( the company that built them.
Here's a copy of the poster board Ric uses at Cruise nites , when he does go, everything on the "board is from his research and having a personal relations ship with LMW ownership. and from working with DCX at the time of production.
2004 Ram Hemi GTX
The GTX was a limited sport-truck version of the Ram, GTX is 04 only, GTx-treme was the 05 Version.
Mid 2003 Daimler Chrysler (DCX) contracted Indiana coach builder LA West to do a limited run, as a homage to the Muscle car era of Chrysler, Originally DCX wanted to release 72 trucks in each of the High Impact Colors, 72 was chosen because it was the 1st year without a Hemi (since 66) colors were to be EV2 Hemi Orange, FC7 Plum Crazy, FJ5 Sublime Green, FY1 Top Banana , the 4 highest selling of the High Impact colors, The GTX name was chosen because it would pay homage to the Plymouth Name plate which was discontinued in 2001.
DCX sent 200 Black SLT trucks to LA West for the 1st run, all Regular Cab trucks 50(30 4x2 , 20, All wheel drive) for each color, as agreed LA West Finished the 1st run, DCX sent these trucks out to the highest selling truck dealerships, all EV2 and FJ5 trucks from the 1st run were sold within a month of being received by their respective dealerships, feedback from Dealers was All-Wheel drive trucks sold out 1st, but 4x4 was the most requested , also at this point several dealerships had sold "GTX package” Quad cab trucks, DCX sent another 64 trucks ,16 for each color, 2 ,4x2 and 14, 4x4, Included in this run was 4 Quad cabs(2,4x2 , 2,4x4) of which were released in the following colors ,Hemi Orange, Sublime Green and Plum Crazy, None of this run were painted Top Banana due to sales request, it was at that point DCX Opened up the GTX option to the Public ,DCX sent the last 24 units to complete the original blanket order, 6 for each color , 18, 4x4 Regular cab, and 6 4x2's that were designated for Top Banana , of the 6 only 3 were painted Yellow, the other 3 were used to complete Hemi Orange orders.
Due to poor sales of Top Banana and Plum Crazy , starting in February 04 only Hemi Orange and Sublime could be ordered for the remainder of the 04 Model year.
There were 25 top Banana and 19 Plum Crazy trucks Unsold for 2004 and were carried as leftovers in to 2005.
During the 2004 model year DCX started to receive push back from Loyal Mopar enthusiast about the GTX name being used on a Dodge, so it was decided that if a 2005 Model was to be released the name would change to reflex the current market trend.
The GTX package, adding an additional $8,300.50 in sticker price. Packaged consisted of Chip Foose designed 20" American Racing wheels, Called "Motto", A cowl Induction Hood designed in house at DCX, the patterns were sold to Reflexxion Automotive, who is the original manufacturer of the hood, the hood received a "blacked-out" treatment, specially trimmed leather 2-tone interior, a serialized number plate on the driver's-side doorjamb, a certificate of authenticity a "hockey-stick" stripe with "HEMI GTX" that extends from the bed to the front fender. The air box is painted to match the body color, a color-matched steering wheel,
K&N Air-filter, and cat back exhaust system, a sport " Tune" was given to all 04 Trucks*. There was an option of hard or soft tonneau cover.
The Custom Paint code is on a tag inside the glove box.
2005, GTx-Treme
DCX left the option up to the dealerships, the package basically stayed the same except American Racing only produced 520 sets of Wheels for the 04 Model and informed Both LA west and DCX that there were not going to produce the requested wheel again, as a result the American Racing wheel became an option for the 2005 GTx-treme ,Standard wheel became then current 20-inch wheel ... "sport tune" was no longer added, because the trucks being sent to LA west at this time were off Local dealer lots and not sent in “prepped” designated groups.
Production #s and some discrepancies.
LA West was bought by Legend Motors Worldwide September 2004 , LMW wanted DCX to guaranty a purchase order of 500 units for the 05 production run, DCX would not commit, LMW completed the current orders and refused to accept any new orders after November 2004 ,as a result and only 156 trucks were produced for 2005, leaving an estimated 110 confirmed orders unfilled.
LMW Production #s are based on DCX order request and received shipments to LA West, which corresponds with DCX's sales records for 2004 models
Both ownerships of the Company state a total run of 434 units, which corresponds with DCX’s sales total. The differ in quantity of color.
LA west released production numbers in July 2004 and those #s were based on dealer requests of the GTX package, not actual produced vehicles, also LA West did not distinguish between drive lines.
LA West published production #’s
