New member so I apologize if this isn’t in the right section.
I recently purchased a 2005 2500 with the 5.7 hemi. I had a 2003 1500 before. About a week ago I realized I had a major exhaust leak due to broken rear studs on both sides. Studs were broken off into the heads. I was able to drill one out but had no success even getting the other to start drilling.
So the easy solution seemed to be to swap out a set of heads I had sitting around from my 2003. Disassembled the motor cleaned everything up and installed the other heads. Assembled everything else. Went to start the motor and it had a really hard time starting, had to pump the gas pedal to get it to turn over. However it barely wants to idle and hovers around 500rpm rough. You can see the motor is actually slightly shaking when running. Truck ran and started fine prior to swapping heads.
New plugs, wires were put on also. It’s raining at the moment here so I’m at a standstill as it doesn’t fit into my garage. Here’s my big question, since the heads I put on were from a 03 and have the valve springs that are prone to having issues, do those work on a 05? I’m going to pull the valve covers off when it stops raining and visually inspect everything. Also want to see about doing a compression check.
Has anyone had a similar issue or can help point me in direction what exactly I should look for?
I know people might say it’s a fuel issue or misfire. But there no codes in the computer. A fuel pressure test will also come when the rain stops. I know this is a lot of info and could be multiple things. But like I said minus the exhaust leak the truck ran fine before. I may have forgotten something but I think this for the most part describ s my situation. I know there’s simple tests I haven’t been able to yet that can rule out certain things. Just hoping maybe someone has some insight. Any questions or if more info needed let me know. Hoping to figure this out ASAP. Thanks.
