Started gathering parts for my manual swap, bougth a SRT10 T56 locally that came out of a viper truck wich was involved in a side collision. First thing I want to do is to confirm that the mainshaft is not bent (tailhousing was damaged), on to the questions 
- what is the allowed 'out of straigthness' of the actual mainshaft? (not side play in the bearings)
- is it possible to measure the main shaft straightness in with the shaft still in the transmission? Or does it need to be disassembled and the shaft measured using v blocks? I'm thinking bearing play could lead to false measurements?
- I did a quick measurement on a machined surface where there normally sits a bearing and on an unmachined part of the main shaft. Machined part had 0.001"/0.04 play, unmachined part had 0.01/0.4mm play. Am wondering if the shaft is out of round or maybe the difference in measurements is the fabrication tolerance difference on the machined and not machined part?
