Well we thought we solved my oil leak. I have a rear main seal leaking. I dont know what to do. Ive got over 600.00 into fixing this oil leak and it calls for 9 hrs just to drop the tranny and change the seal. I'm thinking it might be time to dump this thing because I cant afford to put another 500.00 + into it...we changed the pan, pan gasket, valve cover gaskets and tightened the 4 little bolts on the side of the block so far....what are your thoughts?

As you know you will need to drop the oil pan and transmission. It's your decision on whether you want to do it or not. Might be a good time to install a converter if you fixed it.

If you are planning on replacing it with something else if you dump it I personally would fix it instead. If you are going to dump it and not replace it then I would do that instead of fixing it. There's a lot of value in knowing what you have. I wouldn't want to jump into different vehicle and have a bunch of surprise issues again. I vote fix it. One thing about rear main seals, you can drive them for a while like that and it really won't hurt anything other than the garage floor. It can always be fixed a month down the road if you regularly check the oil. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I say fix it. Oil pan stays on when I do it the seal housing gets replaced with a mopar one or just the seal with an aftermarket one. Either way pan stays on. If it takes them more than 3hrs start-finish with a lift they are lolly gagging around I do 2wd trans in driveway in an hour and 4x4 isn't a lot harder. Like stated you know this truck no sense getting rid of.

When you do the rear main seal do not lube it at all make sure there is not oil on the crank or seal at all its a Teflon seal of you lube it you will be doing it again. Bit myself one time before lol
