If I get past 2 or 3 I will drop the trans all together and get an adapter and bolt a good ol 727 behind that hemi!!!! HE WONT BRAKE THAT TRANS!!!!LOL
The choice would be a A518 and no adaptor is needed. Lockup converter and .67 OD with the strength of the 727. :brows:

wasn't that in the 94-00 rams with the 5.2/2.9?
My laptop crashed and I lost the information I had on this conversion. But the things to consider are, depending on the flexplate used a shim may be required between the engine and trans. Starter motor, cross member and drive shaft. The A518 came with a rudimentary TCM depending what year the trans is dictates it's complexity. Regardless hydraulic pressure switches can replace it and control TC lockup and OD operation. Our PCM can be reflashed for manual trans operation and eliminate problems on that side.

If I had done the trans conversion my attempt with using the Megasquirt tuner would have stood a better chance.

I use megasquirt for my Daytona's engine. I haven't worked with the trans system but if all fails then I guess i will have to learn!!!

I read the thread! AWESOME stuff! I am currently running MS2 extra on my Daytona! I have been thinking about what MS3 would look like installed in my truck! I like the Idea of installing the 4.7 PCM and ditch the 545 and just run MS3 on the motor! I don't like the drive by wire stuff at all. I feel a lag when I get down no the throttle So that is something I have been looking at too!!! I love the 727 trans! I have seen 8 sec drag cars running 383's and 440's with a 727 full manual valve body and a trans brake and NEVER BREAK!!!

Megasquirt is very nice. Especially the 3pro units a ton of functions a lot which don't even get used on most motors too. :thumb:
It would take a bit of getting used to from batch firing! But It would be a big help in tuning!!! My 3.5 runs on a batch firing set up right now. Some of the questions I have is mainly the ignition. Just how does the plugs fire.? do they fire together or opposite ends of the power stroke? Do the coils have there own ignitors or is there need of MS having them installed?

Here is a thread that outlines most of my Megasquirt adventures. I may try it again after getting standalone control of the trans. There is also a lot of specific information for the 03 truck.. :D

I have been reading your thread! It is good info! I am really thinking about ether a 518 or 727 and run MS3 for the motor! MS working great on the street! I keep a street tune and a strip tune! so if I need an inspection I can pass it and if I want to race I can just load the other tune and blow the doors off who ever!!!LOL

IMO, unless it is a drag car I would only use a trans with the modern features of a lockup converter and overdrive. The 727 is of course bullet proof but would be a PIA to drive on the street. Back in the bad ole good days I had a street/drag car with 4:10 gear and 31" tires. It was horrible for anything other than racing. I wouldn't go back to that.... Our 545RFE trans has a .69 od and the A518 has a .67 od which would only be a few rpm's higher than what we currently run.

:thatsdeep:
A lot of good information being spoke about, especially with my setup.

Didn't that thread say the 518 could be build to run manually? No PCM? If that is the case I would most likely go that way due to the fact 727's are getting a bit hard to find!!!LOL I just want to drop the trans controller and control the motor!

It does look very promising and has proven performance behind it. Plus the cost seems to be comparable to building a full on 545.

if i blow my 545 i may be going to a 518/727 not for sure as of yet.since i cannot get my tcm side to work why not right. got a few more things to try tcm wise before i call it quits.

I had a 727 in my 73 plymouth duster! I have had a number of 727 powered cars and have yet to replace a single one! Now the 904 is another story! LOL I have killed a couple of those! But the 727 ether big or small block version I have never blown one up! Now if the 518 has the same strength then I am on it!!!!

I am wondering where do I start a build thread? I was looking around and the only place I saw that might be good was the 3rd gen ram section. Have you guys ever thought about having a build thread section? You know a place where member can follow a projects progress from start till death!!!LOL Lets face it is a project EVER finished!!!!LOL:thumb:

The best place to start a Thread is in the category your build pertains to. Stu's Turbo Mod and Troubleshooting has been around since September of 2011, and has almost 2,000 replies, and is currently on the main forum page. Every time you or someone replies to your build, it'll bring it up on the right side of the main forum page, to remind everyone of your progress, and allows other who may not have been members when you started the thread to start following yours. I recommend putting it in a place where the most amount of people will see it, and benefit from it. Good Luck:thumb:
