Redid my exhaust a while back, pacesetter headers, duals dumped just in front of the axle. Sound was ok, but the drone was awfull. I now extended the exhaust to dump out the side of the bed, hopefully eliminating the drone and keeping just the sound.

Point of no return, have to say cutting big holes in the bodywork made me weak in the knees lol

Test fitting exhaust, twin 3" duals dumping in a 5" tip.

End result, still have to connect everything on the inside, won't be as simple as I thought, lot's of stuff in the way. But then again, nothing is ever simple on these trucks :)

Beautiful truck by the way...

Have some over here too...just do a burn out in front of there house and call it a day. I feel more sorry for you having to deal with those gas prices!

My sister always questioned my need for my truck, until she helped me haul drywall, stone, scrap metal, firewood, etc...I think she got the picture.

Christof, so how are you going to route the pipes?

Are you going to need a heat shield in there to keep the plastic fender well liner from melting? That does look pretty darn good from the outside and the plumbing is going to be a work of art on the inside the way it looks lol good luck! :thumb:

Maybe a notch would be the answer?

Hi All, and Belgiquebastard,

Yeah until their $45000 battery powered Prius won't charge or gets stuck in the ditch then all of a sudden that earth killing, smog spewing monster is well maybe OK.
Wonder if they ever thought about the energy it takes to make those flippin' batteries.......OK getting off my soap box.....
Definitely check on heat shielding. Good luck have fun.

With difficulty :), pipes are gonne go up and over the frame in between the frame rail and the bed, there is room enough there but it will take some time to fit everything. Pics will follow when completed.

No need for a notch for two reasons, first truck wouldn't pass yearly inspection if I did that, second there is 'plenty' room for the exhaust to pass over the frame.

I don't think that's necessary, exhaust tips on my previous muffler (under the bed) had some overspray on them from when I sprayed the frame and that didn't even burn off. So I think it's not even getting that hot there, time will tell!

So frame notching isn't allowed? Are fabricated Hot Rods legal?

Nope, the car has to be completely stock. They let you get away with some things, but frame modifications is a big no no!

Hot rods built from scratch are illegal here, vehicles older than 30 years have easier rules, but you then there are limitations as to where and when you can drive them.

Long day today, with a lot of measuring, welding, cutting it out, do it over,... with not much to show for it, but the hard work is done. Had to move the muffler about a foot toward the front so basically had to redo the entire exhaust from the termination boxes.

up and over the frame

tight fit but have about an inch clearance all round the pipes.

All that's left is connecting the two 3 inch pipes to the 5" end pipe, still haven't figured out how I'll do that. Main issue is to prevent the 5" pipe hitting the bodywork.

Well done! Great fab skills. I didn't think there was that much room over top of the frame. The QC must be different than my RC. Sounds like your regulations are tough on car builders. How about motorcycles, same thing?

Idk, that'll be really tough to keep the tip from hitting the body with that close of clearances. I think it can be done if you brace the pipes on both sides of the frame to the box floor so that they and the tip move with the box and then give the exhaust a place to flex by putting braided flex piping in place of the vertical pieces off the mufflers. I'm not sure how to go about bracing to the box floor though without drilling a bunch of holes, might be less than sightly, idk. With your bed cover, a few screw heads on the floor won't be seen and might actually be a good idea that could work for you too. Good luck and keep the pics coming! The end result is certainly going to be unique :thumb:
