I was just looking through my ATI cataloge the other day and wondering when they were going to make a dampner for us.

It's a brand new part number. They just made it up yesterday. Just kidding! Kidding aside, ATI will only make an underdrive and overdrive pulley for the Hemi application. We have the 5% overdrive pulley for our supercharger application. I don't believe they have the 10% underdrive pulley built yet. Give them a call and put some pressure on them.

I notice it has a woodruff key slot. You gonna machine the crank snout to accept one?!? Sure would give you peace of mind that the pulley would not spin under high boost

BTW a beautiful piece of work!

So just out of curiousity, why are you are doing all of this to a 5.7L when you have a 6.4L in the shop? I think it would have been a lot easier to swap in a 6.4L and then add the SC with the 8-10lb boost. Just my observation. After all the 6.4L already makes 505 hp! A little porting and polishing of the internals would easily bring 540 or so, then add the SC you should be pumping out 700+

I'm interested in the slicks and some of the 6.1 parts, I sent you a pm. Let me know what you have left and how much you want for them, please.

Tomorrow, the slicks will fit! This message has been edited. Last edited by: MrHemi, document.write(''+ myTimeZone('Wed, 12 Jul 2006 04:42:42 GMT-0700', '12 July 2006 07:42 AM')+''); 12 July 2006 07:42 AM

Welcome to the HTC, shardonper (Denny). This is a killer build y'all are doing!

Thanks Denny - we certainly appreciate all the info here... we've all been learning alot from this!

some more crazy questions here if you don't mind answering.

how close was the deck on the 5.7 to the top of the piston?
will you deck the 5.7 block?

what did the stock 5.7 heads flow? your port job is gonna be a real boost it seems.

Sorry, from the pics I couln't see the 4 bolt holes and crossed drilled on the 5.7 - killer!
all caps or just the ends?
Stock crank is nodular or forged on the 5.7?
stock rods seem pretty stout?

are you going to internally balance each part or just the rotating assembly?

I'm just building a future parts list as you can guess, when the factory warrantee gets old, I can plan on a good rebuild, I cannot recall there being a good source for all this info to be readily at hand somewhere else.
Thanks for sharing...

Just a QUICK lesson on balancing.
You weigh all the pistons w/ their pins. Find the lightest one, remove material from the other seven till equal weight. Weigh the small end of the con rod, bring other seven down to that weight. Do the same with big end of rod. Add to that, the weight of one SET of piston rings, and one SET of rod bearing. The total weight of this is called the bob weight. This is bolted to the crank, making sure the crank gear is installed. Then the crank is spun up, and from there it's like balancing a tire. Once the assembly is in balance you bolt on flywheel, spin up again, add or subtract weight as needed. Same way for harmonic balancer, and/or pulleys. Make sure you get a copy of the individual weights, for if you ever have to replace anything, you can bring it to the correct weight, and keep the assembly in balance.

WOW

Can't wait to see the final results.

Solar Ram, The deck heights varied from block to block. The deck heights are advertised at 9.25". On our 6.1 block, that is now at the machine shop, it measured at 9.244". We've seen deck heights up to 9.30". We will have our block squared up to a 9.24". The stock 5.7 heads flowed as such: Intake, 268 cfm @ .500" lift. Exhaust, 179 cfm @ .500" lift. The 5.7 crankshaft is cast iron. As far as the stock rod's? Can't tell you for sure. So far, guy's running turbo's, superchargers and n02, with over 500hp, haven't had any problems that I know of. The engine we are building will be balanced the way Jay dicribed. Hope this helps you out.

Brian, Thanks again for the pulley. With the three pullies we have, we now have an additional 6lb boost window to play with. Denny designed, and is building, a new mounting plate for the supercharger. We will probably have to have custom belts made for it, but it will be worth it.

For everyone else, We just recieved the main and head studs from ARP. The ATI damper and studs are now at the machine shop. As far as the heads, we ran into a slight problem, but everything should be worked out in the next few weeks. Welded Hemi is sending up a driveshaft hoop for the truck, (thanks again Bob) and I will be posting pic's up during the install. Anyone running your trucks at the strip should have one. Trust me! The high volume oil pump also came in. I finally got the rear calipers ground down to except the 16" rims with the Hoosier slicks. Not a quick process. (lol) The upside down gell cell, rear mounted battery is also installed. I still have to route the cables though. The pistons should be here by the end of the month. That's when the fun will begin. I still need to get the SMT6 and the Snow Performance W/M kit. Other than that, it's just a waiting game. Mean time, Denny is working on a 1700 hp, twin turbo, 69 Road Runner. I thought my truck was a project. You should see this thing!
