The tires are directional! Just had a guy in DTW wreck his truck because he criss crossed them. Pulled all the rain to the center of the tire instead of pushing it out the sides!
Criss-crossing the tires can also lead to broken belts. when you cross them you change the rotation and push the belts in a direction that they are not use to rotating in. This info came from the goodyear rep that covered our store.
that's a myth. It's ok to criss cross the radial tires, unless they have a directional tread. Ck any tire manufacturer's website aand they usually have recommended rotation patterns for their tires. here's one from Michelin. http://www.michelinman.com/care/tip2.html
rotating tires to other side of vehicle, ie. right to left, wears down the tread much faster and would also create more friction = heat. But, if you perform a lot of "one wheel wonder" burnouts you will wear down one side of vehicle faster over a period of time.
cris croo=ss is the best for all you guys who will get A/T tires so they do chopp out and still ride on them. done this lot after roasting my tires. no the OE tires are not directional they are plan. front to back and stuff the more you change the better just keep them in pairs. not roto one side and not the other.
