Tranz talk

So.. Getting back into the mood to beef up my tranz...Been out of the loop on it for some time now and was wondering what is out there now..

The 545 I just don't trust..mine has blown up on Diablo's Dyno @ 120 miles on the clock... Wasted another "testing" on a "closed course" ... And seems the one in here now is ok..good clutches and so on..barks 2nd pretty good..But.. I just know at anytime ole 2nd prime will come up like acid reflux..

So far just 422 at the rear and plans for a Magnuson L8r this year..

So.. Swap options? Better tranz that talks to the 08 trucks? Nag1? GM..??

What are the options other than the 545...

Arrington has a nag1 conversion for the trucks and honestly for the perf gained and reliability that trans has I would do that given your a 2008 and making a cable trans work would be a pain. The 545 in my truck is now 3+ years in and has not broken yet but I also don't do 45 or roll wot runs I manually put it into second and wait for the double gear drop to 2nd not prime then punch it. Also never let the trans go into 4th wot! I have a 392 on 10-14psi holding strong!

Yeah...Jerry would be good as well ..but I say..for my situation the Nag1 will be the ticket I want .. Going to Arrington anyway for some upgrades so that might just be the ticket.. Definitely going for a cam change because although it makes good numbers on the dyno my cam falls flat half track..

Johan couldn't get the tranz back in 08 to act right on the dyno.. Kept downshifting... Now I guess thy have those issues resolved

That doesn't sound right, what gear did you have selected?

Dyno and Rams is fun lol it will down shift then upshift and make the pull very odd when running a ram on a dyno that's for sure. In a tune we can lock third gear for dyno purposes of need be on 2005+ trucks.

To be honest..I don't really know what gear he was using.. Sounded like 3rd with the tow button pushed..

Can the 05 PCM be tuned better? More parameters to change over the 08?? Will it work in an 08 truck? I have like 3 PCM's..2 stay in the truck as spares with a so so tune on one...Diablo tune on another and the one I use now was tuned by Marty Fletcher..

I am still old school..carbs..fuel injection and points..I haven't a clue on the computer stuff..

I've heard the 07s and 08s have more options to control than the earlier pcms . That may be different now. But I'll 2nd what Keith said about the trans, don't floor it from a roll and don't go into od at wot. I had a stock trans with a stage 3 VB and edge converter and it lived through my turbo

That's almost like telling a little kid not to eat the free candybars. LOL..

Back in 2011..HRPT.. when I had the truck on display at the Chrysler Museum with Mr. Norm he suggested.. leaving my mark on the GM Proving Grounds the next day...LOL..So while on a roll I WOT in one of the tunnels...defiantly left a mark but was worried about the tranz the rest of the trip....Hasn't messed up yet..that I can feel..

All the more reason I want to look into the Nag1..
