Cam questions..

So I ' m finally about to get my cam swap underway here in the next couple of weeks but I want to ask again about push rods and springs with the 268 comp cam. I was told I don ' t need them with this size cam. I ' m thinking about ordering some to be safe then sorry or just to upgrade while she is down. What would you recommend?
For those of you who have already been through this swap what is the best way to go about it? Did you pull the motor or pull front end apart? Also is it ok to put some hours on the cam before tune as long as you are not beating on it?

1st YES YES YES you NEED pushrods an springs. 6.1s will do, when charged 392(Keith) ghost03hemi(stu) an I did my cam the motor was in the truck we just took out the rad. An for the beating on it someone will give you a good guideline as far as break in. After mine finally was able to idle an run about 30mins later when I was getting into 95 I did a 25-100+ pull an no problems. Complete awful gas mileage but running strong.

What are you doing for tuning? You got the stock converter still?

You just need oem 6.1 hemi springs an pushrods. I'll look for a link when I get home. I don't think your truck will run with a 268 w/o a custom tune.

Yes you can drive it I would sug not beating on it thou to be safe. Tuning is easy if you need a tune and you have a diablo product i can help. The break in for the cam according to my eng builder as soon as your at temp and tuned safe let her rip.

I have a custom cam slightly larger than a comp272

With any comp cam the springs and rods are highly suggested. The springs can all be swapped with head on truck.

Yes it will run but will not idle. Anything less than about 1k it will die. I know for a fact because I took out my custom SCT tune to try and do SuperChips tuning for my trans and I could not keep that truck running for nothing below 1k. It drives fine under normal driving under a factory tune. So worst case if you need to drive it somewhere you can but be very careful because it will stall out as soon as it gets below 1k.
