Four Wheelin' Colorado Style

On a very recent run to check out our home construction progress, the wife and I decided to take a 70ish degree day for some photo ops. Without telling the wife my intentions, I managed to sneak in something that was off the 'well beaten path' and what I read about in the guide book about Colorado backroads. It's known as the "Fourmile Area" and is rated as an 'easy' 25 mile circular route for four wheel drives. It starts out as nothing more than a Colorado (Rd 315) dirt road traveling through Shields Gulch and up the side of this hill that provides camping spots and the incredible views beyond (per photos).

Someday, I'll have to learn the names of the mountain peaks...LOL! Yup and the white patches is snow in the higher elevations.

The next photos shows the 'easy' rated backroad from behind the wheel. While we were out bumping about, I kept remembering that we had a 650 mile return trip to Phoenix in a few day. I really wasn't looking for any challenges on this adventure for obvious reasons.

The most challenging portion of this backroad was following the road off a ridge, where it was severely eroded, into this patch of sand. I believe, it was right about here, where my wife had something to say.

Looking back.

A few little 'whoops' to go over.

Perfect end to this day and to our adventure.

Thanks everyone! It was good to lock up the front end and get out somewhere cool to enjoy the scenery. It seems to me, it has been a "Brutal Summer" in AZ this year. I can't seem to endure 110 to 116 degree days as well as I use to when I was younger. Whew!

As some may know, we are having a custom home built in Colorado (my oversight to mention in my previous post). I really have been very busy going over things with the builder and some added re-research to 'pick and choose' items for the finish. Phone calls and internet surfing, to supplier WEBsites, can really add up in time spent! We're just that close and yet have several months in front of us till we can call our new home in Colorado - "Home Sweet Home." Even after we obtain the certificate of occupancy, we still have some unfinished business in AZ that may keep us there for several years. Then there's my "Wife", whom dropped a bombshell on me, by suggesting we may become "Snowbirds" after the CO home is built and furnished. Yeah! She is suggesting, "WE" come back to AZ to our current place during the winter and I can drive the Ram all over the BIG city streets with the left turn signal stuck on. My sweet, adorable wife cracks me up sometimes. I know she is just joking (at least I hope she is???!!!).

Well that just about it for now. I know I haven't been around much as of late. Just enough time to pull off a "Lurk" and get back to TCB. Once things get back to normal...Once we have have our certificate of occupancy and finish running all over AZ and CO shopping for home furnishings, I'll be back here with my good ole' boy "wit and wisdom" as I once did.

Before I dash, I know I need to select some photos from our project to post, now that it's taken some form and shape. That is, if anyone is interested?
