revisiting Kenny's bro in laws hemi

scenerio..

helped Donnie rebuild his 03 hemi (2500), had block honed and bathed, new pistons/rods/rings. Installed a 6.1 cam/springs/push rods. Spun crank to set timing chain positon, buttomed up. Transported motor to buddy's and installed the motor. It wouldn't fire so we changed some sensors and stuff but it still wouldn't fire so we let it be for awhile. He decided recently to have the truck towed to a shop who told him initially that timing is off (sounds logical, it could happen)... forward to today and my buddy calls me and wants me to call the shop and talk to them about build. The guy tells me that the cam bolt broke, sheared cam pin and that valve #1 is bent. He said the cam seemed to be frozen but when he loosened timing chain tensioner the cam spun again. We were trying to figure out what would have caused the cam to 'freeze' which caused the other chain of events..Logic says that tensioner caused it but we were able to set timing before we buttomed up. I'm going to bring him another 6.1 cam, tensioner and my old stock heads to him for parts replacement. Let me know guys if you think the issue is what I said or should they check someplace else..

thanks..fred

I'm leaning towards the timing being off.
Don't ask me how I know this.
Three sets of eyes missed it.

Timing or for some freak reason something hung up long enough to cause an issue.

Was the cam bolt new or reused? If it failed first, I could see a sequence of destruction.

timing was off...then it got a stuck lifter, bent a valve, broke the cam pin... anyways, I had a spare head, the lifter and cam replaced and she's back on the road... has a slight oil leak on side of pan, have to drop pan and rtv the sucka... but all in all, running good now...
