Seat Height Adjustment

OK, I can hear the motor turning when I try and raise the power seat. The front rises as expected, it's the rear that does nothing. Hit the button and the motor turns, just no motion. I'm assuming this is the old stripped plastic gear issue ? My question is how many of you guys bought the replacement metal gear offered on Ebay, and how difficult was the swap ? I looked into a whole new regulator, but they are $600 from the dealer and 3-400 on Ebay.

What did you guys do ? Gear or whole assembly ? Also, is there another issue that would cause this, that I may be overlooking ? Any advice/experience would be appreciated.

90% of the time its the motor gear that gives out. everything else is metal. it was designed that way so nothing could snap if it bound up just strip out. remove seat flip over disassemble motor with issue and install new gear. I have done a few at work. not to aweful bad to do. main thing is don't turn key on while seat is out keeps from having to clear airbag codes and what not. no sense buying the whole assembly.

Remember if you use the metal gear and something jambs up, you will have more damage, and a higher cost to fix the problem.

Sounds like power seats are a bigger pain than they are worth. Thankful I have the "old school" manual adjust seats.

I had mine get stuck all the way up it would not come down on its own. after I unbolted it and flipped it over plugged it back in and used a pair of pliers on the shaft it started to move. got it to where I wanted it and unplugged it. still goes back and forth just not up and down. guess it needs a new gear also. but it acts like it binding not stripped.
