poor mans carpet shampoo

took my truck to a local shop for some exaust work and when i went to pick it up there were some grease stains on the drivers side floor mat (on top of that my overhead mileage went from 17.3 when i dropped it off to 13.3 when i picked it up.....either he left it idle forever or he took it on one hell of a "test drive") so today i decided to attemp to clean my floor mat.

i took a spray bottle added one part Bissel carpet and upholstery soap and two parts hot water, sprayed the stain let it sit for about half a beer, sprayed again, scrubbed with a scrub brush, then vaccumed with my wet/dry shop vac. it worked so well i decided to shampoo my back seat, there was some staining from the previous owner so i decided to see if my method would work on the seats also.

again i sprayed the seats down (working on small areas so it wouldn't dry out before the scrubbing was complete) scrubbed with the scrub brush, then vaccumed up the dirt/moisture. i have to say i am very impressed with how well this worked, you could actually watch the stain get lifted into the hose. in fact i started out just touching up the stained areas then realised after it dried the area i cleaned was much lighter than the surrounding area! so i wound up doing the whole back seat to keep it even.

only thing i would caution is not to use a brush with real stiff bristles, i started out using stiff bristles and realised the spot was "fuzzier" than the rest of the seat, i switches to a softer bristle brush and had no more problems.

thought i would pass this info on, i was concidering getting my entire truck professionally cleaned but managed to get it done with everyday household items at i'm sure a fraction of the cost.
