How reliable is this indicator? Less than 5 months and 2500 miles later the silly thing is chiming again. Yes! I reset the indicator, personally, each time I perform an oil change. I know the owner's manual states "engine oil change indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the engine oil change interval may fluctuate dependent upon your personal driving style." Yet, this one has me stumped? I would think it would go longer since my driving style is fairly tamed? Can brand of oil & synthetic blend cause this thing to go off early? HELP!!!

There's No sensor that actually checks the oil the comp looks at the outside air miles driven that is timed so it knows how long eng ran and what speeds it saw also watches how you drive it and press the gas And then calculates it with a bunch of comp lingo and tells you an estimated oil life the comp assumes you put the 5-20 factory oil in it so if you use synthetic 3000 either way is perfectly fine

First mention I found in the owners manuals was in the 2008 model year.

Thanks for confirming what I thought about the cHANgE OIL indicator. It can get mighty expensive if the time or miles come around before 3000 miles. The owner's manual makes it sound like life or death if I ignore the indicator.

I went and had my first oil change at the dealership around 3,400. The dealership says every 3,000. The owner's manual says every 8,000. And the EVIC told me to get it changed at 3,500. My question is, why would the EVIC come on at 3,500 if the manual says 8,000? I know why the dealership says ever 3,000.

I check the fluid levels frequently, and use only Mobil 1 with a Mopar fliter. I change the oil every 6000 miles or once a year just before I go overseas. The exception being if I open it up, everything gets changed. The rearend got changed a couple of times last year, but that was on account of the rebuild. Trans, every two years unless I've opened it up. The engine is as clean as a fresh rebuilt engine and I have never had any residue build up. Maintenance is critical for engine survival but I also feel that oil changes are scheduled too often for modern vehicles. Good luck...
