Cage building tip..

Everyone may already know this trick but I didn't so I'm passing it on...
When building a cage it's difficult to weld the joints all the way around. What I saw was they cut holes in the floor of the car under where the vertical pipe sit. This allows the cage to drop through the floor exposing the other joints allowing them to be welded all the way around. When the cage is all welded up, push the cage up into position and slip plates under the vertical feet and finish the welds.

Yep that’s how we do them. Just wait till you have to do the down bars out the back window lol that’s where it gets really tricky but we do them without cutting windows or roof off.

Not the brace across the back seats I am talking the bars that exit the upper rear cab and go down to the frame above the rear tires. Those are fun to do. My cage will be coming very soon once diesel trucks going as I will be turning up the boost a little

For the rear bars, what I've done is lift the back of the cage up while the front bars are still in the access holes , weld up the down bars, some times there's a bit of trail and era. wasn't an issue on the 05 White truck because we had removed the back of the cab for the other work.

We have done a few at my fabricators. We temp tack rear hoop in. Cut the holes for the bars theu the cab and get them resting on the hoop and set onto the frame in the rear. Tack the hoop connection then rock the bars forward and lift the rear bars up to the point where they can be tig welded then tilt it back. It really is a three man job as you don’t want the tack welds to break. Sometimes we have to raise cab a little to make tilting a little easier but it gets done and we don’t cut roofs off or remove glass.
