2009 Ram Exhaust Manifold Bolts Broken and Lifetime Warranty.

Hello all!

I have started hearing the exhaust leak tick at the passenger side exhaust manifold on my 2009 Ram Hemi, and I figured it was a broken exhaust manifold bolt.

So today I took my 2009 Ram Hemi to my local dealership and as I thought I had a broken exhaust manifold bolt on not just one side but both sides of the engine. With 85,000 miles on my Ram and I constantly looking online at the Ram Hemi forums I was expecting this sooner or later.

I am the original owner of my Ram and today the dealership told me that the Exhaust Manifold Bolts are NOT covered under the Lifetime Powertrain Limited Warranty !?!?!?!?! AND that it is going to cost me $540 to get the work done!!!

Since they already had the truck broken down I told them to go ahead and do the work, but I think this is totally wrong! I have gotten in touch with Chrysler Assistance and have an active case #, as they are looking into my claim and will be getting in touch with me in a "few days."

Here is what the Warranty Book says!

WHAT'S COVERED UNDER
CHRYSLER MOTORS LLC'S WARRANTIES

E. Parts CoveredThe Lifetime Powertrain Limited Warranty covers
these parts and components of your vehicle's
powertrain supplied by Chrysler Motors LLC

Gasoline Engine:
cylinder block and all internal
parts; cylinder head assemblies; timing case, timing
chain, timing belt, gears and sprockets; vibration
damper; oil pump; water pump and housing; intake
and exhaust manifolds; flywheel with starter ring
gear; core plugs; valve covers; oil pan; turbocharger
housing and internal parts; turbocharger wastegate
actuator; supercharger; serpentine belt tensioner;
seals and gaskets for listed components only

IF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ARE COVERED UNDER THE LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY THEN WHY ARE THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THEM ON TO THE ENGINE NOT COVERED !?!?!?!?

Someone please explain this to me, and if you have experienced the same thing, and what are my options!?!?!

This happened to mine twice and it was covered under the RRT. Tell your dealership to check into this. You should not be charged for this.

Chrysler Assistance finally got back in touch with me today. And they stated that broken exhaust manifold bolts are not covered under the Lifetime Limited Powertrain Warranty!

Even though the Exhaust Manifold is covered by the Lifetime Warranty the Exhaust Manifold Bolts that hold it on the engine are not covered! I told them that was crazy but they insisted that it is not covered by the Lifetime Warranty.

So after hearing this from the Chrysler Assistance Hotline I went up to my dealership that is doing the work and showed them my Warranty Booklet that shows the Exhaust Manifold is covered and also showed them a print out of the RRT.

The dealership said again that it is not covered under the Lifetime Warranty and the RRT doesn't mean they have to replace them for free, (even though #7 and #8 were the two that were broke off!)

BUT......They said that since I do alot of dealing at this dealership and that my family has dealt with them for many years that they are going to write off the bill this time. And stated that if it happens again then I will have to pay for it. But the service manager said that they replaced all bolts with the new better stainless steel bolts and that in all the Hemi's they have done they haven't had any come back with this problem again.

I am extremely happy that they saved me $540 but I can't believe I had to go around and around about this!

My take is they were looking for a technical loop hole to charge you, many folks would have just rolled and paid. Sometimes I think there is a bonus given for avoiding warranty work. They are jerks for not supporting a obvious long term customer.

Really?? Every RRT I have taken my truck in for I never paid a dime. Glad the dealer is picking up the tab on this for you but I think they are a little full of sh!t when they say they don't have to replace them for free. I may be wrong but this is the first time I have heard of someone having to pay for RRT work to be done.

Sounds to me like they realized that the rrt meant they had to do it for no charge, but wanted to save face by acting like it didn't mean that but they were going to go out of their way to do it for you. I might be wrong, but that's my first reaction to what happened.

Bolts are not covered by any warranty it's really stupid I don't know how many vehicles I have run into with this issue and every make says the same thing out bolts not covered just the mechanical part that is held by them

Dealers love to take your money they even tryed to void my 2013 superbee warranty on the eng for removing resonator yeah I wasn't having that and explained in master tech words from me it affects nothing so they left it alone if you can do your own work is what I say

But, the rrt is specifically for the bolts. In any case, they did the rrt on my '09. Then, some time later a bolt actually broke. (I don't know whether it was one of the bolts replaced during the performance of the rrt) They replaced that bolt and the gasket as well, for no charge. At no point did anyone even mention the possibility of me having to pay anything.
