I would think it means a member is currently on line, I have seen this type of indicator on other websites and forums.

Idk but apparently I'm an "unknown quantity at this point" I think it has something to do with the number of times you've been "thanked"?? Maybe?? It appears to be the same symbol anyway. I'm probably wrong.
