Fan Setting Adjustment on 3865

I'm new to the tuner and was wondering what the advantage would be to adjust my fan setting?

unless you change to a lower temp thermostat there would be no point in making a change to the fan setting since the thermostat will keep the temps higher than the fan setting would.

It's still a mechanical fan anyway, right?

not sure, I know some of the newer trucks have electric fans, I just didn't know what year they put them in. I know even with the mechanical fan a lower temp thermostat does help some.

I'm not sure if the 4th gens are mechanical or electrical. I would imagine they would be electrical. I will be getting a180 t stat in a couple of weeks. Maybe i will play with the settings when I get it.

I looked at one not long ago at the local dealer. It still had a mechanical fan. Since the coolant 'stat has nothing to do with the fan clutch, changing the coolant 'stat won't have an effect.

I don't know about changing the setting with a tuner, but since I put my Jet 180 in the hottest I've seen my truck is 185. I haven't driven on the highway yet, so I'm curious to see what it will be around when I do.

You must have an e-fan or a stuck fan 'stat. When I had my 180, I saw 220-230 regularly (when the e-fan forgot to start)

Hmmm...so are you saying the 180 won't do anything on my truck?

Frankly, I don't know. Presumably, the computer will note the engine temp and make some changes.

I went back to a 203 so I could have more heat. Without proper cooling, the engine will get hot in traffic, regardless of the 'stat rating. The 180 just opens sooner. On the highway, the engine temperature will stay within one or two degrees of the rating of the stat. When I had the 180, it hovered around 180-182. The 203 stays around 202-205.
