Sounds like your nitrous was late getting to the nozzle.

Did you purge just before you staged?

Dumb questions I know, but thought I would ask.

You may have had fuel puddling in the intake,be glad it went out the exhaust !

Count your blessings...you definitely ran fat and then your nitrous hit. Thats how you blow up intake manifolds. Puddeling could have been an issue or a misjetting. Check your jets and try again. I would test the nozzle out of the truck first with the truck parked. Make sure that fuel is not getting to the nozzle first. If it is, you have a solenoid/wiring issue or a clog somewhere. I have blown a lil bit of flames out of my cut outs when I ran too rich. The fuel burned in the exhaust since not all of it burned in the motor.

An exhaust backfire is usually caused by the presence of unburnt fuel in the exhaust....this can be from a severe rich condition or a non firing spark plug.

I would suggest starting with checking spark plug gap and the ignition system.

Fuel puddling...even if it occured...would cause an intake backfire not an exhaust backfire.

Were you spinning when this happened? If so, I'd bet the rev limited kicked in a WOT on the bottle.

Jared I can tell you we heard the backfire from a good distance and could see the flames coming from his tailpipe, really weird. When he popped his hood his ZEX control box was very hot

with that bit of information...I would pull the nozzle and flow the system to make sure both solenoids are opening...it might have only opened the fuel solenoid.

Right now Im just not sure what i need/want to do with this Zex setup. For the longest time it was great with not one single issue. I tried a new CAI and it just didnt seem to work at all so I went back to my original CAI and have done some small runs around town and not had this backfiring issue, then I get back to a track finally and the first time out all i hear is what sounds like gun fire in the cab.

When I test the nozzle with the bottle closed it sprays fuel fine. When i open the bottle and purge or do a WOT it sprays NOS, so im at a loss.

I hate to spend the $100 bucks to buy a new ZEX controller but that is what I might have to do
