vvt delete and pcm question??

well, i'm finally starting to get some where with the project. right now. I have a 2010 5.7 hemi sitting in the garage waiting to go in my 05 dakota. The lifters and mds plugs should be here right after the July 4th. So other than the non-mds lifters and plugs, and programming. Is there anything else that i need to change, in order to delete vvt system? ( i plan i keeping the manual tranny)

As for the pcm. I also have the computer for the hemi. So, I'm wondering if i might be able to use it or will i have to stay with the 4.7. Both use the can bus.

If you plan to use the 2010 hemi pcm then you are good with the different "Tone ring".
The stock 2008 and earlier 5.7 and 6.1 engines use the 32 tooth ring, while 2009 and later require a 58 tooth ring. Lifters and MDS plugs should eliminate the MDS. You still have to figure out what you want to do with the VVT. I would keep it if possible. Have fun..

ok, that answers the tone ring question I was wondering about. The 4.7 in the truck now more than likely has a 32 tooth ring. I would like to use the 2010 hemi pcm, but i wonder if it will match up with the truck's electronics like the dash cluster and what not. Big hopes on that.

Your right Redtruck. I want to keep the VVT. I had to go back research it again.

Do you have to pass emissions inspection? Also a big difference is the hemi uses FBW and the 4.7 uses Cable. An alternative might be to use the 4.7 pcm to control everything except the engine and the use Megasquirt to manage the engine. I attempted to do this using a hemi FBW pcm and failed. The 4.7 pcm would make the difference being cable driven TB. Do your research is all I can say.

We don't have an emission inspection here. Just the state inspection. So the main thing I need to make sure of is no check engine light, have cat, muffler, no leaks. Just the officious, no sniffer.

You will have to bear with me, just a shade tree mechanic here. So other than fixing stock stuff to keep things running, this is pretty new to me.

What is Megasquirt?
FBW-I'm guessing fuel by wire, I wonder how much of pita it would be to use that if I use the hemi pcm?

I've been trying to do some research. I guess i've been looking in the wrong areas since I don't found much of crap. Tried asking around locally, they generally don't want to talk about it or help without a big check in their hand.

Megasquirt is a engine management system that's diy. FBW is fly by wire (electronic control throttle). If you have to have a clean dash, no codes then you really have to understand each and every modification and how your model truck reacts to the mod. This means you have to understand how the DTC'S get generated and their parameters. It takes research and time. Good luck..
