Typical first mod BS

With all my vehicles I always started small like an Intake. I would love the Vararam because I have had it on my G8 and Intrust they're products. Is it worst the time and money for a K&N system to stay carb legal( Cali)?
More pep to the step woukd be nice And a MPG or two would be a nice perk. I dont plan on doing exhaust for a while.
This truck is a DD and dont see me useing it on the track and a 2x so no crazy wheeling fun. Just seeing what I am missing. Iv seen everything from intake and spacer. Too shorty headers and a full exhaust set up to be bolt on complete. Budget Isent very big, so no F/I for this guy... ever. I have been having alot of fun with truck already with its power and its only been 4 days.
Thanks in advance guys.

Just the drop in K&N will give you gains in performance/efficiency. Plus you won't be buying another Air Filter ever.
