Told I need a programmer, what should I get

New to the form so Im sorry if someone posted something similar, but couldn't find what Im looking for. I just bought a 2011 Dodge 2500 4x4 with the hemi. I know it just got the cam replaced not sure what type, also has aftermarket exhaust header back and afe air intake. My problem is it is running to much fuel and has bad idle and when put in gear it dies. Hooked it up to computer and cleared/ reprogrammed it acting like we installed a new motor. Once we did that it ran perfect and shifted just fine. Only problem is once you turn truck off all the problems come back and have to hook back to computer and do the new motor re code. So I am guessing I need a programmer so the problems stay away. Looking for any recommendations on what to get. Thanks

If a custom tune is the answer to your woes whoever tunes it will need the cam specs. It sounds like there's something else going on. Unless it's a pretty big cam, like way too big for a truck, it should idle on the factory tune with those mods.

Welcome to the forum. Custom CMR tuning should make it right. At least allow you to datalog to see what is going on. Since it is modified having a AFR gauge would be very helpful. If you are not into having a modified truck you might consider putting a stock cam back in it.

Agree! A data log would be helpful to see exactly what's going on Diablosport tools are capable of datalogging and CMR tuning I have a Diablosport Trinity that works great on my truck although the Intune should be able to do what you need cheaper

What's odd to me is that it won't idle on the factory tune...

If it's an aftermarket cam it won't normally run very well on a stock tune at all as the fueling needs to be pulled a lot down low. If you get a tuner let me know I am a CMR tuner and can help you out with this.

Glad to have you here.
Get yourself the Diablo iNTUNE (that's step one).
Get a data log and send it to charged392 .
Keith will set you right. Truck will run better than ever before.
