The mysteries of the 03 PCM

I have a good one. I received a set of shorty wires from Chris and put them on my 03... And BTW they work excellent... The cruise control had been acting funny for years... I change out ignition wires now the cruise control is working absolutely flawlessly as it should..... what in the hell does ignition wires have to do with a cruise control... One of the Mysteries of the 03 PCM...... and one of the complaints with Shorty wires is rough idle and hard starting in cold weather under 40 we had a cold snap here a few days ago so I went out and fired up the truck with absolutely no issues started the same way it always does... just thought I would share this if anyone is thinking about installing shorty wires on their 03....... results might vary I suppose......

I’ve definetly heard it both ways. Some say they are fine, some say they have cold weather idle issues. I know on my truck I noticed a big improvement in idle and starting by switching to the newer coil packs. But my truck is not close to stock

If you have certain misfire codes I believe the cruise doesn't work. I can remember years ago I would be on cruise and it would throw a code and drop out. So there maybe a relation between it all. On my truck the 6.1 coils run smoother then the early 5.7 coils. But it does seem each truck has it's own quirks.

The shorty wires are more of an issue on the high perf engines. Mine has shorty wires and in cold weather I get some surging when first started but hot weather or restart it’s fine. I like the shorty wires much cleaner setup.

Cruise is a funny thing and will work and not work for a ton of different reasons

the only mystery I've found with the 03 PCM is why it's still in some peoples trucks....it's like electing Nancy Sloppy Jaw Pelosi to be speaker of the house...you know you can't work with it, you know it's only going to complain, it does the weirdest things and than says...."it's normal get over it" you know it's always on it's last leg but yet seams to come back like that cock roach you keep stepping on.

FWIW the 03 ST I have Cruise doesn't work, and the shortiy wires seam to work fine in the coldish(30-40) if I start it every day, if it sits a week it's like trying to pass a bipartisan bill.....hit or miss type thing.
