Rick, you are about to becoming an addiction. The cure is expensive and takes a lot of your time looking through catalogs and Web sites.
Better just load that old block back in the truck and swing down to Virginia and drop it off at my place. I'll put down my catalog and we can go to lunch...
Nice find. An alternative is a drop in forge kit if the block is in good condition.
That's a lot of reading to go thru ........
my plan as today is to go .020-.030 over and aim for about 10-11 to 1 compression.
Any suggestions on Piston manufactures , trying to avoid stroking this engine, Heads are just going to get a polish and light porting, I just want to clean up the valve guide stems. might put oversize exhaust valve in, but I've had a hard time find 1.6 valve with stock length , seams the only real option is a 1.575
As in backing their mistake in sending me the incorrect pistons and rings. They confirmed that they did send me the wrong pistons and rings but, because it was ordered through Sharadon Performance. They wouldn't send me the correct pistons and rings from the order. And Sharadon wouldn't do anything about the incorrect order either. Even though I told Denny(Sharadon) that these don't look like the correct parts. Denny said, They'll work good. Should of sent them back, instead listened to Denny and installed them. Big mistake....
He can order what ever he wants. Just giving my 2 cents.
"CP pistons good for up to 1000hp(20psi boost) for street/track performance"
Irony is a still have a set of Warren Industries, Gen2 hemi rods...
Probe were great, but now that they are defunked as a manufacture I'm going to avoid them.
Might go Wiseco .
up stairs bathroom ran a week over scheduled, sooooooooooooo I'm just now getting back to this, pulled the cover off it , measured up the bore, and it's a deeper grove then I thought looks like a .04 over will clean it.....so I don't know if any of have tried to google .04 over 5.7 hemi pistons.(3.95)...lots of interesting results, but none that I wanted....started looking around for a new block and I found 6.2 Hellcat blocks can be had for about 1300-1800 Block-Engine Cylinder | Genuine Mopar | 68166434AD : Ford & Mopar Parts | midwestpartsdepot.com so I think I might go that route and build a stocker later.....But finding high comp pistons for a stock stroke 6.2 is like finding honest politicians....you hear about them, but yet no one has found one. stroke kits are out there but most of them I've found are geared towards the Boosted crowd... I also need to get more info on the 6.2 blocks
I'll keep you posted
The 6.2 and the 6.4 block are different
I lifted this from a Hot rod article,
The engine block is the bedrock of the Hellcat. All 707 of the Hellcat's horsepower get transmitted through the block, which is made of cast gray iron. Outwardly, it looks very similar to the Apache block that underpins the 392, but there are two primary changes—three if you count the standard Hemi Orange powdercoat paint! During development, it was discovered that a significant change in the coolant circuit was needed in order to manage the Hellcat's increased thermal output. Specifically, the water jackets now continue all the way down to a level equal with the piston crown's bottom dead center. Second, the amount of material in the webbing between the bores and the main caps has been increased. Lastly,
Rick, the price for the block is inline with what they are asking for the other blocks. No surprise the HellCat pieces all carry premium price. Comes down to will your build warrant using the line of HellCat goodies..
Well this block gets dropped off at the machine shop today, going to sonic test and see where the bore will clean up. The 6.2 block will be here soon might just go with that, still in deciding mode.
Well got the truck @ $700 + fee's total of $1150, managed to get it home, tore down and frame off to the body shop to see if it's straight, frame is good. bed has the front wall pushed in a bit, motor turns over by hand, had headers,Lots of time slips in the glove box ,from Beaver springs raceway(PA)and Island(NJ). rear has 4.56s in it.
the block I dropped off needs to go big to clean up , looks like it's a good beefy block and will take a 4.03 bore and still have enough meat in the thrust side. so I'm thinking SBC .03 flat tops for 3.48 stroke and 6.125 they have a pin ht of 1.125, so if I use a 4.00 stroke hemi crank that'll give me 408 CI, if I mill .03 off the top of the pistons I can use a 4.05 crank and get 413Ci.....not sure which direction I'm headed .
Ric, no doubt you are on your game. I believe the normal consensus for the 5.7 block is <400 power adders/ >400 na..
<9.5 cr for adders and >9.5 na... you have all the spec's down pat, I can't even remember what wieght oil I use.. it's going to be cool to see what you come up with...
